Macquarie Park has something like 35,000 jobs and 10,000+ university students - that's a fair catchment for a cycleway.AndrewCowley wrote:Has there been many cycling deaths on the M2 cycleway?
Also given the length of the trip and the fact it doesn't connect at all well with the city, one has to feel that it's a trip that would only ever be done by the more hard core of commuters. Not sure it's worthy of a full on dedicated cycleway.

I hope the buss substitution people realize that Epping station to Macquarie Uni will be faster via the M2 then (is there a 'suggestion box' somewhere for them?) ... Epping Rd will be so slow... probably faster on the bike...queequeg wrote:wellington_street wrote:...and just watch the transport chaos when they close the Epping/Chatswood train link for 9 months whilst they reconfigure it for the metro.

It won't be pretty as the train to Mac Uni is packed already. The M2 has no bus Lane between Epping & North Ryde, so it will have to be Epping Rd as the shuttle service, but the real painful bit would be the trip along Delhi Rd and up Fullers Rd to Chatswood Station.Warin wrote:I hope the buss substitution people realize that Epping station to Macquarie Uni will be faster via the M2 then (is there a 'suggestion box' somewhere for them?) ... I am affected in that my usual train option is Nth Syd to Pennant Hills via the Tunnel. That will not be an option anymore, requiring a trip to Hornsby first, then back down.
I'll have to stick to the bus, which will be affected by all the extra traffic that the closure of the train line brings.

Epping to Mac Uni will be much faster via the Epping Rd bus lanes than the M2. May take a while to get out of Pembroke St and across Terreys Creek though.Warin wrote:I hope the buss substitution people realize that Epping station to Macquarie Uni will be faster via the M2 then (is there a 'suggestion box' somewhere for them?) ... queequeg - I imagine the current trains that terminate at Epping via Strathfield will extend to Hornsby once the Epping-Chatswood line is closed so there's that option.

Yes, but Nth Syd to Pennant Hills will have to go via either Hornsby or Central, which is rather indirect. It is just that the bus from outside my house goes to Pennant Hills station and was a good backup for when the direct nth Syd bus stops running outside peak.wellington_street wrote:Epping to Mac Uni will be much faster via the Epping Rd bus lanes than the M2. The bicycle is faster now, so once they close the line it will be much quicker by bike!

M2 Motorway and embankment work
Hills M2 Motorway is carrying out maintenance work to the northern side of the M2 motorway embankment near Vimiera Road, Marsfield. The need for this work was identified during the Hills M2 Upgrade and is expected to be completed early 2015.
We are pleased to inform you that this important maintenance work is now in its final stages. The final stage of work will involve resurfacing this section of the eastbound carriageway of the motorway throughout January 2015.
To minimise traffic disruption, this work will be undertaken at night between the hours of 8pm and 5am from 5 January 2015. It is anticipated that the work will take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Traffic conditions
During this work, temporary lane closures will be in place and the speed limit near the work zone will be reduced to 40km/h on the citybound carriage way. Motorists are reminded to drive safely and follow the signs.

as I understand it, they'll be taking the barrier down next week and resurfacing the road where all the construction has been.Xplora wrote:It's a bit of a joke really, I snuck down the full length of the M2 today for the first time and if they moved the concrete merge barrier after the tunnel, you could ride it easily - the little bump in the road is no more dangerous than the huge amounts of garbage and glass on the breakdown lane. According to the same friend when you enter via the Beecroft rd on ramp the signage to say that you can't spcycle is too far down so you'd have to reverse back. "Sorry officer I didn't know I wasn't allowed to ride there until it was too late ".

The section before the tollgates that was the subject of the roadwork has had the concrete barriers removed, but it isn't surfaced yet. Large machines were working on it today laying road surface.
May only be another week or two...

The road has not been resurfaced yet, and the rain is not helping in that regardsBoognoss wrote:Not that I know of yet - legally........ Haven't had a reply to my enquiry email from Wed last week yet. Typical.caneye wrote:are we there yet?

Serious roadworks between Macquarie park and pennant hills road last night reducing traffic to a single lane both ways.
Fingers crossed we will have a surprise next week.

No it hasn't, I drove my wife to the airport on Friday morning at 9:30am, and the entire section was still scraped back to the concrete. Not sure if they have done anything overnight.caneye wrote:The road shoulder had been resurfaced as of Friday morning.
