gregory terrace kids being a nuisance to riders
Postby winona_rider » Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:08 am
so i had this kid shout "oye" as loud as he could in my ear as i passed him this morning and it's not the first time they've been cocky. they make sarcastic comments about your bike or refuse to get out of the way or if there's a huge pack of them they shout "bike" over and over again as loud as they can like mental patients.
money sure can't buy social skillz.
anyone else been affected?
i thought about photographing the kid this morning and sending the pic to the principal but the thought only occurred to me when i was well on my way.
i should just get over it - huh?

Of course, if it escalates, you could organise a CM ride through the group of kids.

Cheers,

but boys being boys probably wont listen so just yell back at them and tell the one student they have a small d*ck. most of the other blokes there will kill themselves laughing and pay the kid out for about a week.
HOPE IT HELPS!!!

that sux. i'd like to offer some solution but I'll have to think on it for a while. i'm not a big one for 'solving' issues through distant authority as others have offered.
it'd be good to get back on them/stop this happening again through some humorous measure? one upping them if u will...

re yelling "oi" in your ear it's a bit of a cop out but maybe just don't ride close enough that anything shouted in your ear will damage your ear drums?!
failing that take a water pistol and squirt the dh after he does it?
re their retardely yelling out 'bike bike!!' maybe retardely yell out 'pedestrian' 'pedestrian' in return? or, alternately yell 'rich private school boy'. i assume from preceding comments that that's what they are?
keep us updated!

No don't just get over it matey! I currently go to St Laurences and do lots of riding. I often go past kids from school and sure, there is a snicker of boys being boys, but those kids are going way too far. I havn't heard of any kids from other schools being so disrespectful.
Definately, call up the school and lodge complaints. Offer descriptions to the principle, they will tell the boys to stop it. Thats what happens at our school and it usually helps.
I hope you solve the issue!

Helps when you can present yourself as the owner of a consultancyGood afternoon,
As a keen Brisbane cyclist, and potential employer of your students should they ever decide to go into the environmental/sustainability industry, it disappoints me on two counts when I come across this sort of reported behaviour by students of any school.
In a world where evidence of manners speaks more about a man than his academic credentials, perhaps your Principal should be somewhat alerted at the reported behaviour of your students, as spoken about here: http://bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8725
I will be forwarding a copy of this email onto the aforementioned forum, and will keenly await a response from the school as to how they intend to address this matter as a general reminder to students that when they are in uniform, they are to behave as if that uniform meant something to them, including the way they behave in the broader community. I will also forward your response onto the forum, as I am sure we will all be interested as to what action is taken.
I look forward to your response and to action being taken.
Regards,
Michael

My thoughts are that these boys have surely harrassed other riders, not just Winona. And unless someone makes a fuss, they will continue doing it. So what if it wasn't Winona who contacted the school? Does that make the boys' behaviour any less reprehensible? Of course not. Good onya, uncle arthur.eliza wrote:hmmm....
i'm not so sure it was up to anyone else to deal with this except for winona?!

Hi Michael
Thankyou for emailing the school to let us know about the behaviour of the
students. I will raise the issue with the boys and ask them to stop. For
some that will be enough . Others I suspect will continue and I would ask
that you contact me again and I will follow up. If it would be okay I
would like to meet you at the spot where it has taken place and then I can
wait for the boys to walk past. I will let you decide if you are
comfortable with this request. Be assured that we take this kind of
incident very seriously and expect our students to behave more
appropriately.
On other side I am also a keen cyclist an will be extra vigilant in
support of fellow cyclists.
Thanks
David Carroll
