I don't believe so but its not official until it's on the main M2 web page. They've kept the progress mostly secret until now as it is.wellington_street wrote:So they didnt adopt the back streets route through Winston Hills?

now i understand why. it looks like it's going to be part of the detour ..

Yes. There's also a big hole in the concrete between the bus stop and driveways that I didn't notice, somehow my inner tube survived the pinch. I'm also hoping they will shorten the wait time at the pedestrian crossing opposite the community centre. At the moment it takes about 2-3 minutes to change...caneye wrote:The workers were widening the footpath/cyclepath between Roselea community centre and bus stop, on Pennant Hills Rd.

I once timed the lights there at something stupid like 8 minutes, so I started looking for a different route that avoided the need to go via the WPH valley. Luckily I don't need the M2 beyond PHR, So I was able to find a route along the railway (Sutherland Rd), only using the official detour when it rained and the tunnel under the M2 floods.ed933 wrote:Yes. I actually phoned and reported the timing of the light cycles at that crossing. The RMS pleb said (paraphrasing) that you can't have the motor vehicles held up.queequeg wrote:I once timed the lights there at something stupid like 8 minutes, so I started looking for a different route that avoided the need to go via the WPH valley. Haha what they're just holding us up. I'm guessing that the idea of such a long wait time is to bunch up people who want to cross the road so traffic is held up for less time, but I've only rarely come across another cyclist/pedestrian once or twice ever whilst waiting there.Boognoss wrote: I actually phoned and reported the timing of the light cycles at that crossing. For the 2+ years from 2011 to 2013 I probably saw more than a handful but never many. The only reason for that crossing for bikes is the detour route for the most part.ed933 wrote:Haha what they're just holding us up. Spending 8 minutes waiting for those lights was approximately 13% of my commute time. Crazy to think that I ride up to 5km in that time!Boognoss wrote:For the 2+ years from 2011 to 2013 I probably saw more than a handful but never many. Exactly! All hail the mighty motor vehicle at the expense of all else. Probably 3.5-4km for me that time.queequeg wrote:Spending 8 minutes waiting for those lights was approximately 13% of my commute time. Crazy to think that I ride up to 5km in that time!Boognoss wrote:

We have concrete information that the end is nigh (and that the detour is pathetic yet again).Boognoss wrote:Exactly! All hail the mighty motor vehicle at the expense of all else. Wonder what this will do to the M2 traffic closing the bus lane on what is already a choke point in M2. This will actually make cycling along M2 much more enjoyable when you are whizzing past cars at 30+ km/h
Boognoss, I think I saw you the other day at Lane Cove traffic light. I was the one in green fluro singlet top Thanks for the more realistic alternate route!

That's probably mostly why I'm so slow. Gotta have 6 spare tubes for the M2trek52 wrote:You cant miss Boognoss.......Beard, Friendly and looks like he is riding to WA with all the crap he has on his bike

Sorry, my M2 search took me to a random spot in this thread, not the last post, so I posted the above before reading about the detour.
I was going to take my first ride on the M2 tomorrow but not now. The M2 section between Pennant Hills Road and Windsor Road is the most crucial as it bridges the 'inaccessible' Darling Mills Creek area and so using the M2 now seems pointless. I hate using Renown Road and North Rocks Road so I may as well go via Parramatta or Castle Hill to head west.

Ha. I actually had 2 punctures in 1 trip last Friday. I usually carry 2 spares, but now I'll have to carry 3 just to be sure.Boognoss wrote:That's probably mostly why I'm so slow. Given the tunnels are ultimately 3 lane, how do they merge with the M2?
Will it be possible to cross from bike/breakdown lane across these intersections?
On occasions I have found it difficult to cross at the Pennant Hills offramp already.

Mention of underpasses being constructed for bikes to handle the crossing but no plans that I've been able to find.am50em wrote:Does anyone have a link as to what the M2 interchange will look like in detail?

I rode on the M2 in the same direction today. I thought a sweeper must've gone by recently 'cos it was 1 of the cleaner daysDojoBuff wrote:Changed my mind and rode the M2 from Delhi Road to Pennant Hills Road and went back home via Epping back streets. Surprised by how much debris is in the M2 breakdown/cycle lane. Quite 'crunchy' even for a mountain bike.
i find it's not the crunchy bits that hurt you but the unseen, tiny radial wires
