Who's up for a ride this weekend? both distances have 50% of their distance on unsealed roads. Bring a bike with 28mm or wider tyres and have some fun.
This report from back in 2013 which you may have read in Checkpoint.

If I wasn't down with the flu, and if I didn't have two other commitments already, I'd be there for this. I've been looking at these mixed surface rides and drooling. Soon, I promise.

no problems BFV.
While I have not put the Wheelbarrow Ridge Ride up on the calendar this year I might see if I can get it slotted in anyway. I'll let you know. Less dirt, 150km, but very nice also.

Do it after soccer has finished I'm wondering how the fixie would go on this. I've been commuting fixed for months now and when I do go offroad I find I have an enjoyable level of control on slipping surfaces. I know the hills won't be fun, but if a geared rider is walking up them, it doesn't really matter, does it?

For the Wheelbarrow ride, https://ridewithgps.com/routes/5710291, you'd probably be OK, even the unpaved are smooth roads.
Bilpin? you'd be a better judge of that once you've done it on a geared bike I think.

The wheelbarrow ride is the one I've seen before and it was on my list of things to do. IIRC it's a permanent as well. I'd happily ride it as a permanent, but I was wondering if the permanents contribute to the badge award thingy - if so, I'll be very happy since it will cross off the 150 in grand style.

A permanent will be considered a BA (Brevet Australia) ride and you can get the BA badge or patch.
It won't be a BRM, so no BRM badge.
The BA ride can go towards any Australian accumulative awards.

Thanks Robert. That's now on my list for the next time I get a leave pass.
