Speedplay shoes..help

Postby flex5150 » Sat Feb 13, 2016 12:51 pm

Love my speedplays....but SIDI Wires are not getting along with my feet. I had to size up from 43 to 44 in Wires to fit in the toebox I run custom orthotics with an extra innersole to take up the etra room.
I find I get pain on the outer edge of the ball of my feet , mainly right.

Anyone with any other experience ...recommendations in speedplay specific shoes...or ultra comfortable other shoes that you have adapted to SP.

Please dont tell me to switch to look etc..it wont happen.

thanks in advance

Doesn't need to be SP specific, I have used SP for years and had Sidi Ergo 2 once. Switched to Bont Vaypor+ and the new S and love them.

Any reason you absolutely need 4-bolt shoes? Personally foot comfort (and there's such a massive difference between even "just ok" and something that really fits) is much more important than a few mm in stack height. FWIW I'm using Giro lace-ups (whatever the less expensive road ones are called) with Speedplays on the aluminium base plate extenders. Have never used other road pedal systems, don't intend to ;)

I guess it would also be possible to drill these or other shoes with relatively flat outer sole and sufficient thickness, and other people have done so - but I'm happy enough with the adapters for now.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe

Have you tried a 43 mega in sidi wire Flex? The mega might give you the extra space in the toe box so your usual size fit. (If they come in mega the speedplay versions)

I was in a similar situation, would always get extreme pain on the outer edge of my feet, the right foot especially. If my ride was over 2 hours it would be REALLY painful and the side of my feet would go bright red. I also run Speedplays. I had Fizik, Giro Empire lace ups and Northwave with the speedplay adaptor, I loved the feel of the low stack height! But in the end I gave in and bought a pair of Shimano R171 wide fit (hard for me since I'm a campagnolo man...) they're a reasonable price too. Best decision I've ever made, the wide fit has stopped all the pain on the Side of my feet! (I put specialised insole in them too)

Lake CX237 is the go. Very wide around the toe box. You can get a wide version as well which is mega wide!

Try the bike fit wedges Flex. I run two on each foot and will even the pressure out. :D

thanks for the replys guys. and appologies it took so long...I was O/S for a while then havent been on here much. I ended up buying giro factors and s works ..whatever last years model was.. both better than the sidi. and the stack height is negligably different...go figure.
Im drawn to the giro atm with the high arch inner. But both shoes have been a big improvement...no pain. I look back now and wonder why I was hell bent on SP specifics???
Problem solved...(touches wood.)
