What is a good external website for me to upload photos of my bicycle to?
I am looking to upload photos but not sure what website to use as a link for this one.
Any recommendations?
Cheers.

Have a look at the first point in this thread FJ45, the current list of recommendation for image hosting is included.

It is a shame that Anonmgur had shut down and won`t be doing it anymore but had moved to https://anonimage.net/. But it doesn`t look good as it is too small to see. But it`s better to ignore this hosting service.

The above pic is from Anonimage and it haven`t got the BBCode and it`s not worth it.

So I use the Postimage pic below of the info from Anonmgur with thank to stupid people who stuffed it up.

If memory serves me correct today is the 15th birthday of the Forums. Congratulations Chris on running one of the best sites on the web. Failure never was an option and you proved it.

Thanks for thr kind words. In the early days the forum went through a few software changes, this edition dates to 2005 if I recall.

Passion and usefulness are the big drivers...so many people benefit from the info here, even the multitude 4 in 5 who are just reading.

What is recommended for Google maps/earth pictures? I've followed the instructions on the first post on this thread (with the link to a street view or aerial view in Google Earth), and can't get it to work.

Can you share some of the links - for example URL (in the top bar) to the map and also the link that google will give you to share it. I will take a look and see how it should be done. Sometimes they change it which brakes it here.

This is the link here: https://www.google.com.au/maps/(AT)-34.924 ... 312!8i6656

Here is the attempted image using that same link: Image

I think the problem is this isn't an image, but a page with functionality; and I can't work out how to link to a plain old image.

FYI I posted the link on this thread: http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 53&t=97387

You`d have to screen shot the google map that you`ve linked and use the 3rd party host to post it in this forum.

You will see what I will do it for you in a few mins in my reply to your post with pic of that location.

I have tested, the current format as an AT symbol - this could be one reason that the new google map format doesn't work.

I will take a look and probably have to make a few adjustments - this means that old map embeds wont work.

Hi 4130 - yes unfortunately this is related.

Technically the hosting creates 'instances' which scale up and down. For the front part of BNA (news and reviews) I am able to split the software / database / media.

For the forum however I have the software + media together and only the database is separate. I have spent countless days working on this - a big issue is that the forum software wasn't designed for this type of autoscaling and splitting of assets. The next issue is that when any custom changes are made (to potentially allow it) everytime there is a software update, it is extremely time consuming.

As this is a free community (and intends to remain that way), my time management is tricky in keeping it running and spending enough time on the tech stuff without neglecting work that allows me to put bread and water on the table each day.

I have posted a solution for this but will start a new thread in this section - in short, I can set it manually for members who need their correct avatar.

Why not try the https://postimages.org as I do it to post pics here?

No need to insert img or url tags, just only copy the use
" Hotlinks for forums " and paste it in here.
PS, do not change the "no expiration" box.
Thanks, this worked for me today as a newbie to this forum. I have to say I couldn't find the list of recommended image hosts and was glad this one worked first time (well, third time really).

In Postimage, there's a problem of ongoing spam ads when posting via "Hotlink for forums" button.

It would be better to use the "Direct link" button and use the "img" tag and you'd get this pic with no spam ads.

Another way to post pic without creating an account is https://imgbb.com/.

Use the "don't auto delete" and use the " BBCode full linked" buttons and copy, then paste it in your post.

For people not savvy uploading images to forums.

The easiest way currently is to start a Flickr account. It is free.

Step 1.
Upload your photos there.
It is very easy website to navigate with a button that says upload photos. It's literally all the site does.

Step 2.
When you want to upload a photo here, click your photo on Flickr.
In the bottom right corner is a right pointing arrow, it is the share button.
Clicking it will display the link to the photo.
Copy and paste the link on its own in to your post here.
The photo will show up with your message.

It's very easy.

Hi again, this is what happens when I attempt to post a photo using the above described technique from my Flickr account..
I have also attempted highlighting the link and clicking “code” as described in other “ how to post images” sections of the forum… Nothing seems to work as it should. Ps( not whining , very appreciative the site and forums exist and totally appreciative of the unpaid hours administering a site like this must take. Thanks)
