Black Surly Straggler stolen in Cannington near Perth
Postby mpepperdine » Mon Jun 10, 2019 11:30 pm
Bike is a black Surly Straggler with 2 bottle cages, front and back rack, and drop bars.
It was stolen from the railings under the footbridge outside Portal Escape Gaming Lounge in Cannington near Perth.
Thanks

Cannot get over how angry I am, I was literally about to start a cycle tour from Perth to Darwin the next morning.

Did it still have the same tyres as in the photo? I saw a similar looking bike at a homeless camp in East Perth this afternoon but it had white tyres.

Where abouts is the camp? I suspect having both a front and rear rack makes it stand out

It was probably not your bike as the tyres had white tread.mpepperdine wrote:Yeah, same tyres, although they look a bit whiter in real life now they’ve been cleaned.

The homeless camp is at the city end of the Public Transport Centre carpark in the area behind the hydrant booster in this Streetview image:

The approximate street address is 101 Summers St in East Perth

I have info for you but don't know how this site works or if you can direct message people. Either way, report it to the police and watch the classifieds closely. It may already be gone, but it was listed this morning on Facebook. I can give you way better info but don't feel comfortable posting it public.

It’s a bit disconcerting that the listing has been removed in the last 12 hours or so after being up all week, so I hope that’s police-related, rather than that’s it’s been sold, or the thief has just taken it down out of fear of being caught.
I’m surprised it didn’t sell straight away when it was listed on Monday/Tuesday tbh. It’s being sold for $700 when it’s in almost perfect condition and was closer to $4000 new.

It’s goibg to be so unbelievably infuriating if I don’t end up getting it back, especially after being so close with seeing it listed again and seeing the scum selling it.
I’m amazed it’s actually popped up again, I would’ve thought it would be sold for parts or sold anonymously off the internet. Unreal stupidity to sell it on Facebook with your profile attached, right nearby where it was stolen from in the first place.

Fairly sure dirty little bike thieves aren't known for the large quantities of IQ. Hope you get the bike back.mpepperdine wrote: Unreal stupidity to sell it on Facebook with your profile attached, right nearby where it was stolen from in the first place.

The police haven’t done anything in the 10 days since I contacted them which was really annoying since I gave them proof who was selling it and proof that it was my bike. Escpecially considering that they said they would send people out to try and recover it the day after I called.
So disheartening being this close to getting it back and failing. I wish it’d disappeared for good rather than popping up months later.
