Masi Speciale Frame

Have been offered a 2009 Masi Speciale frame as an introduction to Track Cycling. From my limited knowledge base this seems to have a slightly more relaxed geometry for the track which appeals to a 48yr old track newbie . Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Possibly only concern would be the BB height for more road fixie style frames combined with longer cranks especially. Low bottom bracket and longer cranks can strike the track on steeper velodromes...

If he is vertically challenged, (midget/shortarse) he can run 165mm cranks

Thanks @dalai47 …..this is the kind of information I need to make an informed decision. Whilst not expecting to be aggressive around the track the frame has a 60cm S to c so the crank arm will be 172.5mm minimum.

Why?
My son is 6'2" and uses 167.5 cranks.
No need for long cranks unless you are pursuiting. And even then, the science is debatable.

I expect given the size of the frame that is the length of the cranks that came stock. Changing out cranks starts a slippery slope of upgrading / replacing parts which will defeat the low entry price of a starter bike.

Agree shorter is better and safer on the track. Coming from a tri / road TT brought up the now potentially debunked longer cranks better I ride 175mm on all my bikes except the track bike which are 170mm's.

Perfect! Thanks @dernydriver and @dalai47 I’ve now learnt something. No cranks as this is a NOS Frame only deal. I get to build it up which is part of the appeal. No doubt I’ll be tapping into this forum now also for pointers and further info.

My first track bike was a 2008 Fuji Track Pro. Just done a comparison between this and the Masi and not the BB hieght on the later is 18mm lower at 266mm.
