Definitely disagree with the way Robbie McEwen was treated.
Simon Gerrans is very good too however.
Be nice to have em both along with Bridie O'Donnell who I am enjoying the most tbh.

Looking at the break. One of the bora riders has some lower profile, ?~30mm deep wheels.
Very unusual to see.
Most appear to have deep carbon rims.
Still it is a climbing stage, maybe they are super light.

Most appear unconcerned by running deeper wheels in a large bunch.

Not too bad for Froome 41st on stage and 49th overall. Up 23 places.
Good to see G in the mix, looking strong.
It's been a very entertaining race so far.

Favourite moments from the Tour de France in Denmark


Because of my work, I really didn't see any of the ITT... just got wet and was with the teams and riders. This was good and productive, but still separated from the actual race.

As an insight, some of the riders go in their zone and need their time and focus. Some are naturally a bit more engaged. Both is fine. But you also see some riders who are great to everyone and are genuine. Other riders are closed, I dare say arrogant until the TV comes along and they turn on the charm.

For some of the Aussie riders, Caleb and Simon Clark and Ben O'Conner - it's just a few words but kind and friendly. The whole covid this means you don't want to cross the line and also you don't want to be full-on because the riders are bombarded anyway... everyone wants something so better to hold back a bit.

Caught up with Phil Ligget.. he commentates for NBC and is still the voice of cycling. It is the Phil and Bob show.
Also checked in with the SBS guys, Matt, Simon and Simon and their roving reporter Dan Jones. Didn't see Robbie this time but he is doing really well with Eurosport GCN. Said g'day to Cadel...

It was all pretty exhausting - long days, so nice to now be able to watch on TV from afar and get a fuller experience and actually watch the race instead of just getting slices of it. (but awesome to be on location of course)

They're looking a happy family. But on odd occasion they make silly noob gafs.
Simon's diction is a little poor for mainstream imho, but he's nice enough.

I care less about diction than information content.
Neither Bridie or Simon are people I'd classify as a noob in terms of competitive cycling knowledge.

I like having their insights, however would have liked Robbie's to remain also.
Disappointing that the person who decided to give Robbie the flick still probably holds their position..

Anyway, good racing so far, Pog is looking stronger than ever.

I have a mate over there at the moment and he's moving around on his motor bike and catching some of it. He tried to get a ride with Allen Davis in one of the Soudal Lotto cars but because of the beer virus protocol, he wasn't able to. His Dad Greg Davis is one of our old racing mates.

So, we get to the 2nd rest day, with some surprises and some expectations met.

Expected :
Pog in Yellow
WvA in green
Some nasty stacks, but thankfully no major injuries

Unexpected :
Simon Clark's win - cool
Froome only 28:29 behind in 37th possie -
Magnus Cort staying in polka dots for 8 stages based on Cat 4 climbs !
Rog in 11th despite riding 30km of cobbled stage after dislocating his shoulder and putting it back in
Ben O'C down and almost out
Current top 10 - but plenty of climbing to come !

The next three stages start with some decent climbs and then just ratchet from there, so the Top 10 will be interesting to see after that !

When I tuned it it was exactly at the moment when I was asking ‘shouldn’t they be racing right now’ and the commentator were talking about something and not what was happening. Quiet confusing for a while.

Anyway, great win and bloody close 2nd.

Covid claims a couple of key riders, the main one that will hurt Pocagar was losing George Bennet, but Hirschi isn't able to be much support either.

The next couple of stages could be interesting, and you have to wonder if Pocagar should've let the yellow go to Kamna ....


And the Froomedog tried to get in the break but didn't, but he finished just behind the leading peleton. Let's see if he can keep it up ?

Saw this comment on WW, and it makes sense (if that is what happened) as I haven't watched the final climb yet

UAE didn't do much and were happy to gift the yellow to Bora, but TJV and Movistar made sure to pace the last kms just hard enough for UAE to keep it. The next 2 stages will be very difficult for UAE to control especially if Roglic or Yates attack on the col du Télégraphe or on the col de la Croix de Fer.

I wouldn't want to be McNulty, Majka or Soler this week

The reasoning is that by TP keeping yellow, makes his team work a bit harder.

Am skiing so no staying up late watching tv in a shared room, but it seems like I missed a huge stage.

The only time Pog looked vulnerable in the last 2 years was in the heat so I’m wondering if that was a factor

Indeed. Watched till 32km to go and went to bed.

2nd to 7th now within 1 minute ....

Froomedog lost almost 30min and now down to 41st and just shy of 1 hour off the lead ....

And tonights stage is just 10 or so km longer @165km but also has 4,600+m of climbing with 33km of climbing off the bat !

Great viewing! G still going well. Pogacar using disc brakes in mountains and not switching. The stage tonite should great viewing as well. Can P recover and improve???

Makes for a more exciting race now. Not sure I want to see a rider dominate for years so having Pogacar slip down is good. Pogacar is clearly an amazing talent but we need a competitive race.
