Hi all, currently running compact road 50/34 into a Sram 11-36 cassette on my ScottAddict but would really like a lower bottom gear.
Could I just bung a GRX FD and 46/30 crankset on there ?

Or a 48/31 grx chainset so you lose less top end.

Check the width of the GRX crankset to make sure it doesn't mess around with your current front derailleur.

GRX is just slightly modified road gear, and mostly interchangeable. Biggest difference is in the front chainline; GRX places the chainrings a bit further outboard to accommodate wider chainstays dictated by wider tyres, therefore has a wider-stanced FD to match. You could possibly tweak the road FD's limits to swing it out that bit further, but it's safer to get crank & FD as a pair. They will play fine with the rest of the system.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Is this currently 10 or 11sp? currently have triple cranks (24-36-48) &12-36 rear, currently 9sp but has been 10 changing only the right level (Sora for 9, ultegra for 10). It also used to be 2x10 (46-30, both levers ultegra & FD). I might go back to a 46-30 with a GRX (10sp) but really then want a bigger cassette, 11-42 would be really nice but don't know if the ultegra levers would still do the job? Want to change as little as possible.

GRX, even in 10-sp. form is based on 11-sp. architecture which has a different cable stroke which is incompatible with most other 10-sp. shifters. You'll need a GRX400 or 4700 Tiagra shifter to work. Although the derailleur can fit a 11-42 cassette, it won't do it paired to a 16T chainring difference, it doesn't have the length to take up the chain slack. Maximum possible chainring difference is 14T.
