What LDR said. V-brakes and brifters are a mismatch made in Hades. Mini-V are better, heck even cantilevers work better than the initial combo. I had a Blade Pro similar to that, flat bar with mini-V brakes, was a great bike. It's more than salvageable.stevenaaus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 4:06 pmYeah, I think you're right about the brakes. They pull a lot of cable, and with bartape on, it's gunna be close. Hmmm - Might send this one to the dismantlers.ldrcycles wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 11:05 amMy guess (based on the lack of bar tape) is they got to that point and realised road brake levers aren't going to work well with mtb type V brakes. Swap them for cantis or mini Vs and you'd be good to go, if there's room for 32mm or wider tyres you've got a decent allrounder.

My Allegro has drop handlebars and V Brakes, and you can get V Brake compatible brake handles for drop bars. There are only a couple of models available, Tektro and Cane Creek make them, I just replaced mine and bought the Cane Creek brake levers and they work very well. Brifters are another matter, don't know of any which are compatible with V Brakes.stevenaaus wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 4:06 pmYeah, I think you're right about the brakes. Nice bike. From following some links, I think Rivendell CX are rare.Thoglette wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 9:27 amRivendell CX, apparently in Rivreader #8

Surely they could have capitalised on current thinking and called it a 'prototype gravel bike' and added another zero to the price?
Some nice stuff there, but all the coin and then some.

The irony is that getting Riv to do a custom frame; collecting a vintage (or new) Dura Ace gruppo; shipping it to Oz ; and then paying someone to build it would probably make it look cheap.

If I was in the market for it I'd try for $500-600 to account for getting Joe Cosgrove to bring it back to the condition it deserves.P!N20 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:30 pmLlewellyn track frame for a good price (IMO): https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/kalamun ... 1306646129

My brother (older) had a shifter like that on, I think, a Malvern Star dragster. 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears and the cool shifter which looked like something on a car. Worked fine, a good look for the period.mechkbfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 1:44 pmhttps://www.ebay.com.au/itm/195568102534

Yup, some people just aren't old enough Should also have a "banana" seat and sissy bars. Lots of variations on the themeDavidS wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:58 pmMy brother (older) had a shifter like that on, I think, a Malvern Star dragster. 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears and the cool shifter which looked like something on a car. Yep that's me, I only had it built up for a short time, and with a ragtag assortment of old 105 and Tiagra parts from the shed, so didn't get any photos. I did about 25km on it (and really liked it!) so the tatty parts came off to be replaced with Ultegra or Dura-Ace which just never happened.

It's possible, but not easy. The pic below should last a bit longer than the auction, but will get purged
