BNA Downtime June 2023

Postby AUbicycles » Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:57 pm

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thanks for your patience regarding the BNA Downtime. Mods - feel free to whatsapp me if it you spot this so the message gets through quicker. In this case, a busy family weekend would have put a spanner in the works for dealing with this.

So what happen - BNA got flooded and even with the flood-gates up, the site was hit by a malicious scraper and used up all of the capacity - so even once it was over - it couldn't recover when genuine members and visitors (and the standard bots) tried to access. I believe I identified the culprit.

The other cycling forums are a poor substitute.

I needed to disable the board temporarily because the aggressive bot was still getting through - not sure if this was apparent though it was just moments away from being crippled again.

I think I have now need able to block the baddies correctly and see an immediate change again in the statistics.
