BNA Downtime 17 May

Postby AUbicycles » Mon May 17, 2021 3:42 pm

Appears there was a 6 hour downtime. Reason unknown. Bad Gateway 504 and 502 suggests either an overload - e.g. hack attack or server configuration issue. As there is a firewall that can usually pickup the hacks and no server changes were made, it is unusual though may have been caused by an Amazon AWS update.

Getting a lot of 502 bad gateway last 24 hours. Both at office and home, less so on mobile device.

Been onto this and trying to workout the source. There was a massive spike in threats, floods of (bad requests) that have caused issues and I took steps but it was not entirely resolved.

There's been a bit of it going around. I cant see that BNA is terribly worse than some other sites.

Ladies and gentlemen, all of my investigations suggest this it was malicious... i.e. a massive load of requests and despite alm protective measures, it has been a burden. Today I saw signs that it has eased but even when I expanded server capacity, it immediately was at the limits.

:) Uptime is really good - but is also demanding a bit more time as the hosting costs are getting pricey and harder to cover.

24 hours in a day is too few hours.

504 errors still. Yesterday, today as well. Non stop.

Is this being hammered by bots or bad guys?

Me too - like watching grass grow  . I tried turning off my VPN but it didn't make any difference. Other sites & forums are fine.

I think that is where a lot of the double posts are coming from. Hit Submit, wait for the 504 error, and hit submit again = double post. The few (single) posts I have done have actually gone through in spite of the 504 error. I have "snipped" my post to clipboard, then just waited for a refresh and checked if the post was there and it was.

Thanks for getting it sorted. I wonder if there was a bigger problem as my internet access to all sites has been slower for last few days and yesterday had to reboot home router multiple times (very unusual). Today internet access is fast to all sites.
