Coming soon - a major software update needs to be installed and alongside are also some significant server updates. I aim to start... and successfully finish it all during forum quiet times (night time) and the forum will be disabled and at times may be completely offline and unreachable.
When I have a time, I will aim to announce ahead of time, though could be short-notice. If there are disruptions, it may be a matter of returning later (and cleaning cookies / cache for bicycles.net.au)

Site advertisement is also something where you may notice changes. As always, I want to avoid annoying or disruptive advertising - though there is also a balance to also get revenue to cover the hosting and tech costs. If you do spot advertising formats that are undesirable, make a screenshot and report in the "forum feedback" section.
In the case you see advertising content that is bad (like the scam ones or topics we don't allow like gambling) then these are where the advertisers are manipulating the categories - so beyond my control. However you can click on the X (usually at the top right) and then the 'send feedback' and report as inappropriate.

I understand that the website needs revenue to remain active, so advertising is a necessary evil. I'm OK with ads being shown on the otherwise blank (at least on my display) side panel on desktop, I'm sort of OK with ads lobbing between posts, but what really cheeses me off is the plonking of (usually irrelevant) ads in the middle of members' posts - to me it's an insult to the poster that there is an irrelevant ad stuffed into the guts of their message.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Yes. One the one side - the advertising has an effect so appears that this change will get closer to getting the costs covered.
On the other, these ads inside posts is really annoying. Despite trying to prevent google from doing this, it still happens and I will have to try and program a solution that some ads can show between posts and not in posts.
Is it ok to say... I am onto it and trying to improve? Happy to provide updates.

Hi, I am only seeing them between the posts... though google individualises it.
If you grab a screenshot and email, this would be good.
Should note, I have tried to tweak it, but think I have to build a custom solution because google keeps on going beyond what it should in ad placement.

Are you using an ad-blocker, adjunct or integrated (~into browser)?
I have not been troubled by ads anywhere since installing an AB ... back when Nelson lost an eye!

It was on mobile, seems to have changed today and isn’t a problem.AUbicycles wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 9:34 amHi, I am only seeing them between the posts... though google individualises it.
