New Fly6 CE and Fly12 CE Camera's

Anyway, I guess I'll find out in about a week when the new unit arrives, assuming we're back to the usual wet weather.

I received an email from Cycliq this morning asking me to do something to be in the line for the "new fly12".

I have a new Fly12 and am using the CycliqPlus app to edit video, so I'm playing with the tramline overlay feature and the Strava overlay. I've given Cycliq permissions in Strava and synched the time and date of my Fly12 with the mobile Cycliq app, however when I add a Strava overlay to a video there's no data at all, even after waiting a few minutes to see if it loads.

Is there a trick I'm missing?

I posted too soon – I managed to work it out. The Strava data doesn't appear on the overlay when you are editing the video, but if you are logged into Strava on the PC when you hit "export video" from Cycliq Plus then it will synch the Strava data and add it to the video while the video export is being processed.

The run time looks impressive, even with the light on, compared to the Fly6 which gets less than 4 hours with the light and camera both on. But no audio on the Magic Shine might be a downside?

True. I have both the Fly6 and the Tooo Cycling DVR80 - the Tooo has better video quality especially at night, longer run time, but has been hit by the ugly stick. The looks are really the only advantage the Fly6 has over it. Oh, the rack mount for the Fly6 is excellent though - I had a lot of difficulty mounting the Tooo to the rack on my commuter.

So this Magic Shine unit looks quite nice, and if true, the battery life should win them some customers from Cycliq given the price advantage. I think audio is important though to record bells, horns, revving, abuse etc.

That's excellent battery life considering it's a camera, light and radar. The Fly6 battery conked out at circa 3.5 hours for me when I was using the light in flash mode as a daytime running light. The next long ride I did I used a separate light and just used the Fly6 in camera mode, and it made it past 4 hours that time.

The Fly12 front unit has much better battery capacity and hasn't been an issue at all.

I'm the same. The Fly12 sport I have is excellent. It's like the front and rear are made by two different companies.

The runtime of this Magic Shine is 9hrs on brightest flash + video, which is pretty decent but the light is a pretty pathetic 30 lumen, which may be OK for night use, but 30 lumens is barely visible in daytime, especially a sunny day. I use a Giant Recon 200 lumen and even it isn't bright in full sun.

Has anyone had any luck in getting theirs repaired/replaced?

I'll raise a ticket with Cycliq, but I'm not hopeful.. i may be looking into the garmin varia now. hopefully they're more water resistant?

Apparently they are.
I am not in the city so less traffic.
I will ride without a camera.
I will not ride without the radar now, it is that good for my riding.

for a similar price/not much more you can get the Garmin Varia RCT715. The Varia has the radar. I don't get who their target market is

My Fly12 Sport took a tumble at speed recently after falling off the mount on a rough decent. The GoPro mount broke on the bottom of my out front mount (thinking maybe too much weight). The silicon case saved the unit from breaking but the mount on the camera cracked and broke. I’ve had to Macguyver up some rubber bands to put another GoPro mount on the camera and I bought a new K-Edge Garmin mount which seems a bit more solid. I do like the camera but I’m always on the lookout for other options. I have no idea why you can’t download footage onto your phone and edit/save it directly from the app. If Garmin made a front camera I’d give it a go, not sure I need a rear cam and I already have a radar brake light.

I just take the sd card out and copy the footage to my pc
Agree if garmin made a front camera I would buy one
And I won't live without a rear camera. Have had at least one incident happen with a motorbike heading right towards me. A front camera won't capture the rego

Exactly the same thing happened to me… I was dive bombed from behind by a motorcycle (a P plater at that!)… rear camera got the incident and front camera got the rego. Done deal.

My rear Fly is several generations old and the resolution has never been as good as the front (also several generations old)… I might upgrade the rear but the price is a bit steep so it’ll have to wait a while… if anyone upgrades, can you let us know how it stacks up?

I agree. The competitive landscape is very different to when the first Fly6 was launched.

The video quality was NOT the Fly6 weakness, rather its battery-life and water-proof qualities.

Anyway, a chunk of their market would have been eaten away by radar-based lights.
After 4 different Cycliq lights, I picked up a Varia RCT715 on special, at a price lower than the Fly6 Pro.
There's no way I'm going back.
