Be very wary of all insurance providers.
After my little 'incident' it turns out I'm essentially completely uninsured.
The home insurance didn't cover the bike at all outside the house (CGU). I thought I'd arranged this, however on reading the confirmation e-mail it stated that I could, but I hadn't. Flat denial.
I also had Auscycling insurance, mainly for events. The trauma cover there has $3000 maximum expenses, a $1000 excess, and $500 a week for income protection with a 28 day waiting period. Utterly useless in pretty much any circumstance.
A very considerable number of home/contents/vehicle etc. insurers in Australia are owned by gigantic and exceptionally profitable
SunCorp, so you can expect a pretty tight (and expensive) ride with any and all of them, CGU being just one of many. Shop "outside the square" for a better deal.
No chance of insuring my toys in house insurance — they're a much lower priority than everything else, including the car and lots of other contents. I do have VeloSure insurance (recommended to me more than a decade ago by other cyclists who had been covered by that crew for a long time and had no problems), but they will only insure bikes up to 4 years old — after that, well, I presume it is 'upgrade time'!?
