Gotta feel bad for the bloke. We get fed a series of stories by Cycling News, Cycling Update et al.......all english based sites who naturally concentrate on english riders, and then he looks bad. If they didn't report on him, we'd be none the wiser. Lets be honest, english reporters and media are scum. Always looking for sensationalism. Just look at the drivel being written about young Pidcock. He was never going to be the next world beater, no matter how much they talked him up. Just like the Aus media did to young Caleb Ewan. Now, the pile on. Robbie McEwan picked it from day one with Ewan.... he could be great, just watch out for everyone pissin in your pocket.

Edit....but the Froomay stories are still funny

He's racing again !!!

This time at the prestigious Gree Tour of Guangxi (2.UWT). 6 Stages covering 1,021km but no major climbs.

He's finished the 1st stage in 109th (or 128 riders) and lost a measly 19 seconds, so in a good position .....

Stage 2 is a bit tougher with 181km and a shade over 2,100m elevation gain

He's going hard! 115th of 128 riders, only 12:08 down! He can make that up on the first MTF!!! Not only is he in a solid position for a surprise raid on GC, but atm he's in front of all bar one of the Chinese no-name team. Not to mention Federov, Jakobsen and MANNY BUCHMANN!!!!!!!!

Looking at this morning's story

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/chris- ... f-in-2025/

I reckon there's some serious sandbagging going on here.

At least he made the break !!

Maybe strategic sandbagging at the end to do a miraculous recovery and snatch it ...

That CN article must've be hard to write, through the tears of laughter and constant eye rolling ....

What? There was a break? A 12 minute behind break?

“It’s a fantastic pension scheme”: Chris Froome branded “the worst signing in cycling history” and a “half-time clown” by former pro after “undignified, meagre” season; Froome admits “I’m not looking for victories”

He was in the break until 40km to go when the road hit the dizzying steepness of 3.3% & yes he lost 12 minutes in that 40 km.

Cracked the top 100 today

AND didn't lose any time !!!!

Also improved 5 places on GC and now only 10 spots to go to get to 99th ..... :|

And from the road.cc article

“Froome could ride his Pinarello from 2015 and he still wouldn’t crack top 20 in Tour du Rwanda with his current level.”

To be fair, the Chicken was right – Froome only managed 27th overall in Rwanda this year…"

Ouch, but true

I don't follow any of the pro cycling races at all, but is it some slow news day or something?

There must be some other story other than Froome?

I don't suppose the journos writing these articles would like to try and ride better?

Froome, a four-time Tour de France champion, joined the team in 2021 on a five-year deal worth an estimated $5 million per season

Given the results, the coverage is understandable. ;)

Daniel Ricciardo in F1 didn't perform there (as was kicked out), but was most likely there just because of his name.

This is probably some of the same.

But I would expect the naysayer journalists to show what talent they have before going on their rants. Fine if it's a former pro rider with real expertise, but if it's some pencil pushing writer, no. That's why I'm not joining the rants.

If he bails he might not get paid. So keeping on going will keep the cash coming in possibly.
Even if you know your days are done, got to keep the money coming in.

Two things (1) the chicken's real expertise is doping & hiding from doping tests - he's piling on Froome in a desperate attempt to be relevant - much like some other doper we all know. (2) if someone was stupid enough to pay me $5 million per year with no performance criteria, you better believe I'd be working out the full five years, without any embarrassment.

The pile on I was joining was giving him heaps for the delusional press releases about how he was going to win an event or even be competitive & the moron publishers who would give these oxygen.

The point the chicken made remains accurate.
What a complete waste of money from the teams' perspective.

Agree absolutely that paying Froome $25million was a waste of money - but that's all down to team owner Sylvan Adams. Even a one year contract was a huge gamble given his age and the injuries, but Adams was stupid enough to plonk a big bunch of cash with a 5 year contract with no performance criteria

Agree with all. Sylvan got him into the mess all by himself.

Managed to maintain his overall slot at 110th on GC by finishing 113th, some 13:27 down.
