Oh crap! That’s dreadful news and one of the worst bones to break too. He will probably be off the bike for a long time.

Renowned Aussie cycling coach (Gary West) lost his life to MND (Motor Neurone Disease) several years ago. He was credited with getting Anna Meares to return to the Track and excel once more on the World stage after she was seriously injured in 2008.g-boaf wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 12:14 amOh crap! On the topic of bad things:

That’s sobering. I had a colleague who lost his life to that. I don’t know how he still managed to be so upbeat when things were plainly so crap. He was always assisted by his carer.

These are things like sound of ocean, night time, rain, etc.
These are actually very helpful to shut out other distractions or just to unwind. I use this with noise cancelling headphones. Really excellent.

I aint as bad as you yet but am heading that way. On duty from 0700 yesterday until 0500 this morning when I pulled the pin. They'd have kept sending us to inappropriately triaged nonsense if we didn't.foo on patrol wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 5:15 am

Took me 2 hours to get to sleep and I got about 4.5 hours.
Part of the reason shift work is associated with higher rates of chronic disease and shorter life expectancy I guess.
I have tried melatonin, zolpidem (prescription only and utterly useless) and doxylamine succinate (restavit).
Restavit is the best but I use it infrequently as the more you use anything the less effective it becomes ime. A short term aid only.![]()
