Cheers Gary. Part of my race preparation in the carpark is to take out my brain and put it in my drinks bag
You are right. I haven't really got any art around getting someone to help me as you say.

I was there.snedden9485 wrote:Where you there Burt? Bloody good race, well run too.Burt 'Pigeon Racer' Jones wrote:Anyone do the Token 12hr yesterday?
I know Snedden was there.
Even had a brief chat with you during your first session, I just didn't let on as to who I was. Lets see how your memory is.
We were supposed to have a 4 man team, but only started with 3, so I ended up doing 6hrs on the bike!
Had an absolute ball though.
Ended up doing the last hour session with 2 of you team mates. Who were the guys riding the yellow Lemond, Pinarello, and black and green Orbea?

Pinarello - Team owner and rider
Green orbea - guy from Sydney who rides on team (dont know him well - Scott)
Lemond - Dean Megahey - local gun MTBer and class road rider.
I was out there from about 730 - 800 with the tall skinny guy on the litespeed. We done a hard 3 laps, there was one Southern Highlands guy helping us with a few turns which was great.

everytime i race and PM and ES are there they are always in a breakway, usually by themselves and sometimes with 1 other hanging on for dear life.ft_critical wrote:WSID A Grade
After 1hr and 30min exactly, feeling good, still working on the front often – ANOTHER PUNCTURE. I found some green glass so it was not the previous problem from the rim side. I was disappointed but I was glad I could run in A grade (well the second bunch of them) without any trouble.
On the shake my head side, there were about 6 cycling coaches out there "move up rider x," "close the gap," "come through," etc. Lot's of talk and very few people who would roll turns or who seemed to know how to roll. Really disorganised. Bit disappointed in that really. Everyone saving themselves for the sprint for 4th place - seriously, what is the point? If you are ever going to be with ES and co, you have to improve, not practice your sitting in.
Stats: Avg 39.45kmh for the 1:30 I rode, Max HR 186, Avg 167, max speed was 57.3.
Must be difficult for the other A graders who seem to have resigned to the fact the best they can do is 3rd place.
Interesting about the average speed, i was running around in C grade and our average was 37.1. Wonder what the B grade average was? Any B graders who was there want to let us know, i think i can run with B grade if i do less work at the front. I was in the top 5 the whole C grade race and worked alot, trying to put pressure on the pack. I rather do this than sit in for the whole race just to sprint at the end. It was 4 or 5 of us at the front rolling through and the rest sitting in, we seemed to have the train strectched out single file alot though so maybe our efforts were working

You can do a provisional upgrade Don, just to check-it-out so to speak. Why don't you try that?leximack wrote: i think i can run with B grade if i do less work at the front.
BTW, my objective for the year is to make a break with PM and ES (where no other names turn up), hang on, get dropped and roll over by myself for third. Even that is ambitious I think.

I agree with Leximack. It must be disheartening in A grade to train like hell...follow a strict diet...buy the best machine...train some more...miss sunday breakfast with the family...train some more....then only to get blown by the lung busting breakaway of ES and PM.
Maybe when they reach 75 years old?

E, D, C and B grades, plenty riders in the mix right to the line ( B grade 3.4.5 etc were only just behind 1 & 2). A grade 1 & 2 then an empty straight with no one else in sight! Best wishes to FT Critical in his efforts to hang on there

The guy in the Southern Highlands kit was riding the Cervelo. He was stuffed, and wouldn't/couldn't pull a turn, so just sat on. He did a little bit of work close to the finish though.snedden9485 wrote:Were you the guy on the cervelo R3 SL or in the Southern Highlands kit?
He said he was "Pedalling squares." If I had the breath to laugh, I would've.
Man, these 2 guys were burying themselves! If their team finished on top, they certainly worked for it.snedden9485 wrote:Pinarello - Team owner and rider

He wasn't out there for long, but rode solid tempo while he was.snedden9485 wrote:Green orbea - guy from Sydney who rides on team (dont know him well - Scott)

7th in the TT,..Chuck.
Add Ben Dyball for PCC events.....ESC on the breakaway and a fourth guy for their breakfast...I have seen them play with their breakfast so many times that now i know why some of the A graders chasing has nothing left to do but shout at the lower grades "AAAAAAAAAA grade!" At least they can remind themselves they are still racing A grade....cruel world

This is so true, I raced A grade since the start of the Spring season but now Race B. It is the same every week in A Peter, Eddie and Ben and sometimes Brody or another “young chap†will leave the rest of us after about 10 kms and then the following 8 or 9 riders dwindle to about 6 and we sprint for 4th or 5th place. Look at the start of A grade now there is like 12-14 Max and 5 or so won't finish, it is brutal. If 20 lined up I would ride in A, but 6 or 7 guys chasing, ineffectively I might add, 2 World Masters games Gold medalists plus Ben (7th at the National Junior Road Champs) is not a fun race.
As a result there are some stronger riders in B now and it is hard to get a break happening, though Walter and another gentleman did very well last night! Myself and a friend in matching jerseys tried to bridge but that was a red rag to a bull and the bunch hauled us back in. B is more fun at the moment and there were no crashes last night! Yay!
