Well, I was going to post a new topic with the subject line "Sydney commute" and a body of just "brrrr".

Not looking forward to the journey home. I have a 3.5km downhill (168M -> almost 0M) before I have warmed up. Froze last night, almost to shivering point.

Headed down to the train station at 5.20 this morning, very cold.

Went for a ride after work between 12.30 and 2.20 this afternoon, much better  .

It was a beautiful day this morning, if you had proper cold weather gear on.

I didn't get out of bed before 9:00am. It was perfect around 1:00pm but stuck on conference calls so I had to wait until 4:30pm and went down the Regatta for a few laps and some sprinting. About 10 mins in, back to the car for the wind vest, by about 5:40pm, damm cold, time to go home.

I did have a wicked idea of getting some of the crazies together like Killer and Boognoss, out at 2:00am on a clear night and go do some hill climbing, maybe ride up the Hawkesbury lookout. All you'll hear is the icicles snapping off your nose and ears...

Nah just leave at about 5:30am and greet the morning frost as the sun rises, whilst in the mountains. Why do you think I ride after work now. Too cold in the mornings.

just came home from a 55km run up the m7 cycleway and back, perfect conditions, had the full winter gear on and was toasty warm, was good to be out.

Went down the Regatta around 4:00pm until dark, it got a little cold towards the end but well worth it. The ride home was its usual "hillarious self", people trying to get home 1 minute faster than usual, taking risks over double center lines, dickwitts..

It wasn't cold in the lower north shore/inner west on the way home tonight, perhaps being closer to the ocean delayed the onset.

It was a pleasant ride on the way home in the west too.

I had trouble fitting the extra layers I had stripped off into my backpack for the ride home. It was about 4 degrees when I left for work this morning...and not far of 20 for the return trip.

I rode this morning. The temperature at 6.30 am was a balmy minus 5.
Not much talk on the ride as everyone's lips were so cold we couldn't form words. My fingers are still tingling. I need new gloves!!!

JR, where in Central West r u ? That sounds excruciatingly cold ! I'm leaving home at 5:00am tomorrow morning, driving to Domestic terminal, heater set to HIGH... Boognoss and Killer can enjoy the cold, Sandman needs warmth to function :-)

Cheers..Pete

While still cold, it seemed a bit warmer in the inner west this morning

Bathurst.
The official weather was -3.1 but my car said -4.5 and a mates thermometre read -5. Near the river is always one or two degrees colder than where the temp is officially read.
Coldest I've ridden in is -7. The trick is to find a hill early in the ride. Mt Panaorama is always good, but you don't go all the way up or you end up freezing again on the way down.
Usually for these temps i'll wear a thermal undershirt, log sleeve jersey and full winter jacket, longs; inner and outer gloves and neoprene overboots.
Yesterday was a shock because of the sudden temp drop overnight. Minus 5 is usually about as cold as it gets in mid-winter.
Global warming?
You guys might be visiting me in my Bathurst beachside house in a few years!

Anyone know where you can pick up a thermal under shirt, and a rough price range ?

Try Kathmandu. Even better is to wait for their almost regular sale.

I got mine from the local camping store. Merino, long sleeve about $80-90. I checked out ground effect but their thermals were about the same price and looked about the same quality

The sale was about 4 weeks ago

Getting back from balmy Phuket into Sydney weather I've picked up a cold :-(. I was looking forward to the weather and riding the day after we got back (Sunday) but I'm still feeling average today too. Maybe tomorrow, and all the while you guys streak further ahead in the journal.

Cold 9℃ morning and rode out at 6:30am to meet a friend. The sore legs from the weekend didn't help with the pleasure of riding one little bit.

Sogood, smashed yourself a little over the weekend ? I finished off the weekend with 4 reps of Lapstone hill and the left quad is feeling a little sore. I might head out for a recovery ride a little later this afternoon ( when it warms up) to stretch the legs. It looks absolutely gorgeous outside !

Can't say 6:30am was a time when I was awake !!!

Cheers Pete

Simon

Take it easy on the first ride back, you're better off building yourself up than trying to smash a world record on your first day back

Anyway, welcome back !!!
