Disclosure - Links on BNA

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:00 am

Many long term forum members are already aware that some links to online retailers are 'affiliate links'.

What this means is that for some retailers the hyperlink to the store has a unique ID that tracks a visitor from this site to the store and means that in the event of a purchase, a small affiliate commision is paid to BNA. Obviously a purchase choice is entirely up to each individual so is not affected by this affiliate link. Also worth noting is that BNA doesn't receive any personal information, the only thing that can be seen is that a purchase has been made via an affiliate link though there is no way of identifying the individual, so privacy is protected. There is no affect on pricing or discounts.

Any income generated from affiliate links is used to cover running costs of the website.
We welcome any one who chooses to use an affiliate link on BNA to visit a shop and before making purchase.

That said, if you would prefer that there is no affiliate commission, delete your browser cookies for the retail shop, this would then remove details of the affiliate link.

Some affiliate links to certain online retailers are created from the text content, if you type in the name of certain shops, the shop names may then become automatically linked with an affiliate link. In discussion with forum members and moderaters it was agreed that this approach was acceptable as it doesn't change or affect the context of the post.

The affiliate links are already disclosed in the Terms and Conditions, though this is just a refresher and should there be any questions, I am happy to respond.

True...

... and I really run it in the interest of the community for example I could run massive ads across the middle of the screen (that you have to click away) or have casino's that want me to hide links to their sites in the content - but don't do this as I think we are all better off without. I try to acheive a balanced that makes it useful for as most people as possible.

And i reckon you're on the mark, i know there's ads there but that don't annoy me, and there's one for schindelhauser? bikes that has me very tempted :) .

Keep up the good work, the knowledge that is shared on the retro section of the forum alone is priceless.

Thank you... I think the balance is good... and the Tour of NZ or RED in motion video is a website internal promotion.

The Schindelhauer bikes look nice, I saw them in the flesh and am fond of the style.
