Postby Nikko127 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 2:33 pm

Hey all, interested in people's opinion of best tyres for track use, both clincher and tubular on the boards, concrete and bitumen tracks.

Hi Nick ... for the indoor boards, its unanimous. Vittoria Pista Evo 19mm Tubular. Buy them online from the UK for approx $90 each. Conti Sonderklasse are good too but are 3 times the price and slightly heavier. For clinchers, the lightest and grippiest (and safest) are VELOFLEX http://www.veloflex.it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For outdoor concrete tracks, the Continental Grand Prix Supersonic in a 20mm are sweeeet. Again, have to get them from the UK for about $55 each (cheap). They are very light and very grippy. Superb. You can put the superlight Conti tube in them if you are a weight weenie. At 25 bucks I just use normal tubes.

plain old vittoria pista's were my first tubular. one finally died, so i replaced it with the pista evo cs. (21mm from memory - at the 100kg mark i avoided the 18-19mm versions)

differences.
price - double the price
outer casing. seems much the same
inner casing - much lighter material, higher TPI count too, bright white compared to the cheaper model.
tube - latex instead of butyl rubber - lighter, maybe less rolling resistance in a laboratory setting,
doesnt stay inflated for over a week.
valve extension - replaceable and red anodized :)
