Malvern Star 5 star with 60cm top tube c/c and 58cm seat tube c/c - frame 2050g + fork 850g = 2900g (weighed on kitchen scales while boss is out of the house). Unknown frame tubing, fork blades are stamped 'durifort'.

Great frameset, but seems very light - I wonder if all our various scales are calibrated accurately?

I have a 54cm 653 frame and fork which makes it the same tube diameters and thicknesses throughout, including the fork. Mine come in at 1810gms and 640gms, see pictures earlier in the thread. Frame weight can vary through lug choice, braze-ons and even paint thickness, but even so 290gms seems a lot. The forks should be easier to compare as they have a very similar fork crown and drop outs and yet there is still an 80gm difference.

Anyone got any ideas on how to check scales for accuracy to help address this issue?

Yeah weigh some other parts that have published weights and compare!

I'm surprised how light some of those steel frames are coming out to be, usually see those weights quoted for just the tubeset!

Hmm. Those dimensions look better suited to me than to you.

I'm sure it will come up a treat.

OK, just the frame is it?

0.992kg!
Yep, under a kilo. And that's with a few bits and some retroreflective wrapping that I can't be bothered stripping off.

And fork included.

Early 1980's Graecross Jackeroo. 26" wheeled hybrid...but mostly roadie tourer given the narrow 130 rear end! Stickers claim 'mangaloy double butted'.

Frame is around 2700 grams. Fork adds a further 1150 grams. Frame size is 56 cm TT with a 50.5 cm ST.
Ours is not to reason why...merely to point and giggle

130mm was the mtb standard in the mid 80's. An attempt to reduce wheel dish.

Not hard to reduce dish with a 5 spd freewheel! It kind of measures 127mm so it could run 125mm as well.

It's no MTB...just isn't built that way nor is the geometry right.

700c wheels with 42 mm tyres fit fine in the frame as well - long reach caliper brakes might even get them to stop.

Tempted to neither scrap it or offload it...but dunno quite what to do with it.
