Some kind people have put spare tubes and I think pumps on the back of a lot of the signs if you do get a puncture. Pay it forward!

Yes, I've noticed one particular sign at Walmer Street that is supposed to have a tube in there that hasn't been replenished for a couple of weeks. If you end up using a tube from these stashes please replace at a later point with another tube. (I don't ride there - I'm just jogging through)

also, ride with a couple of spare tubes so you can hand one out to a stranded rider.

i patch my tubes for that reason, so it doesn't cost me anything (including to replace my own tubes). have a guess where i get the tubes from in the first place :)

Anybody got a puncture from tacks lately or has it all died down?

At the risk of upsetting the puncture fairy, the Boullie is one of the few spots I haven't flatted

I kinda doubt anything has changed; the person/s involved have shown a seriously cray-cray level commitment to their cause, and we'd've heard about it if they'd been caught. I saw a few people fixing flats or walking last time I joined the weekly group there a couple of weeks ago.

it's mostly likely a local who drives it regularly, has stocked up on upholstery tacks and throws them out the window regularly. there is clearly some type of disorder upstairs to allow them to assess this sort of behaviour as worthwhile and justified, but then they're unlikely to be investing a whole heap of effort in it.

Rode it this morning after 10 when it was still wet, a likely time to pick up a tack. Made sure I was mostly outside the white line and got through unscathed. I was on sturdier 26 x 1.5" tyres which help.

Rode the Boulie again this morning and got a slow-leak flat. I am going to check the tyre over for anything which may have contributed, but it looks like it was something road-surface related. After last weeks one I managed 60kms in the afternoon and another 100kms over two days before flying up to Brisbane (leaving the bike alone for 4 days). So I don't think it was simply the result of a poor tube replacement.

Got tacked pretty bad today on the Boulie. A fellow cyclist was kind enough to give me a tube, after I killed my two spares. If you are on these forums, pls PM me

Mate of mine got tacked for the first time this year on his morning Boulevard commute.

Another mate saw a few punctures near the boathouse.

Saw plenty of people fixing punctures last Tuesday... some idiot has also been making caltrops by cutting up chicken wire and leaving them on the shared path around Rushall Station.

The Tack thrower is hard at work. The hill overlooking the abbotsford convent had 100s yesterday. A mate and 5 others hit them and got front and back punctures. Some walkers stopped to help cleanup handfuls of black painted tacks off the road.

I know many cyclists who avoid the route now so the idiots are winning.

I think we need to have one of those roadworks signs set up with
"Cyclists.
Road Hazard in Shoulder
Use main lane"

Or similar.

They were there though. Only managed 5 laps myself but saw 5 people fixing flats during that time. Also saw a patrol car cruising and lurking and what may have been an unmarked car too.

Seems like the Boulevard is not the only place to be careful. This from the Age...

"A small number of tacks were discovered on a bike path near the Rushall Crescent Community Garden, just off the Capital City Trail running down to Merri Parade, in December."

More than 600 wire tacks have been found strewn across Edinburgh Gardens.

my bet is this is the same person who is laying them on the Boullie. someone has gone to an awful lot of trouble here - that would have taken many hours to prepare those. demented.

Haven't seen these type of tacks on the Boulie so you'd think different parties are at work.
