another year, another 100 coot-tha backs for me
definitely 9 years in a row, could be 10. will have to look it up
edit: looks like 9 it is
good effort. won't be too many can say that.
Thanks bwdftp - it keeps me honest. Coming close to 1500 backs for all time. Should hit that in the next couple of weeks
Also not many people can say that! Good work.

I’m only up to 186 total!
I treat Cootha Back as an ‘all in or nothing’ exercise. Probably why I’m not going any faster - only doing one a week. Mind you the last time I went slower than 8:30 was July 19th, 2022.
Just wish I was doing consistent 7:30s rather than my standard 8:00/350W. Still even one of those makes the rest of the week easy in comparison.

i'm a big fan of a good max effort Cootha. one of the best signs of form is a 'fatigued' max effort - on saturday i managed a 7.39 on the full 2.3km segment (7.28 Coot-tha Back/7.23 Santos) after 233km/8hrs 20min. pretty happy with that.

That's epic. Full credit to you for consistent mid 7's as well. I'm happy to accept the second fastest time of the day every Friday, because it seems inevitable!
I have to admit my usual Friday Cootha follows the strategy of 'dawdle 20km from home in Coorparoo' followed by 8 minutes at 187bpm; so not exactly fatigued.
Not sure I'll ever get faster than my 7:40 PB but the numbers suggest it's possible. At the moment the need to stand for almost the whole climb is holding me back (leg length discrepancy, possibly an undersized bike) is holding me back. 350W at my weight should be a lot faster, but even 5'8 into the wind is not exactly aerodynamic.
Should probably spend some actual money on a bike fit one day, but given my main goal on a weekly Cootha Back is to raise my suffering threshold for everywhere else, it's working ok.

Oh that's not good.

Those kinds of punctures scare me - especially on steep high speed descents.

Woah! At least that bit’s straight!
I’m sure I’ve bored everyone here already with my story of it taking 600m to stop on the back brake when I did the same at 60km/hr descending the back.

Well done on the stop! That's the fastest part of the descent for anyone who hasn't done it, I'm a lightweight and have still hit 76km/hr down there.
Any ideas on the cause? I hit a pretty solid rock over the top yesterday, probably only the fact I run tubeless now saved it.

Hoy mackerel!! how did you come to a stop?
I probably would have squeezed both brakes, but not sure if that's the right thing to do?

Rear brake is the go. But as I was tracking straight I could use some mild front brake

Definitely rear brake. It's what saved me when this happened.
It takes a disturbingly long time to stop on the rear brake only though!
