Transport for NSW has created three temporary cycling routes to help inner-west residents get to other stations during the shutdown of the Bankstown line.

Cycling advocates have urged the department to make further improvements including lowering speed limits to 30kph on local streets.

All the photos in the article show people walking their bikes. Not a single rider.
Probably organised for the photo shoot only.

Nice idea but we really need more and soon. And when these temporary routes are gone, I hope that's not a case of no more shared paths, no more riding.

There is supposed to be a permanent cycleway but won't be built till after metro construction.

So what that means is:

"Oops, we ran out of money, no cycleway for you"

While behind your back they really didn't want to build a cycleway anyhow but just made an empty promise to placate advocacy groups. Or am I being too cynical? I don't trust the government transport department. They might as well call themselves Department for More Motorways and More Cars.

Nothing like a bit of ministerial intervention to send bureaucrats in the transport department into a panic.
