That's democracy at work and the explanation is the same as why we'll still go
to the ballot box on 14th September, in spite of virtually every commentator
telling us its a foregone outcome.

Chris might have had a hunch about the outcome, but having a vote is much more reliable and
criticizing him for doing that is a little unwarranted.

I am a Yes.

First came across the progress bar in the 6K Club a few years ago. Set one up for the first time last year. I have found the idea of a very public goal/measure of progress quite motivating and I don't think I am alone.

BTW a big thanks to the mods for all their work balancing some diverse and firmly held opinions.

Yes from me, even though I usually use Tapatalk and can't see them.

I have found others' signatures informative.

Given the vote is well and truly in support of sigs I would argue that they should be turned on (default) and those that don't like them can make the choice to turn them off. The majority should not have to go to the hassle of turning them on just to please a few unhappy characters.

What are the numbers for and against?... I won't be able to get to a normal computer for a while so can't see the poll.

Seconding coffeeandwine - can we turn them on only in the 6K goal / 10K goal type threads?

Otherwise leave them off.

As much as I would enjoy debating it, just a quick reminder:

You see this is the lobbying that is implemented in a poll.
If you don't agree with some one label them "Unhappy characters"
Some sigs actually do the same thing. It can be used to push a vision, and annoying to be seen every time that person posts.

I think you are reading way to much into my comment ... it simply reflected that some people do not like sigs being present. To suggest more is rather silly.

Anyone not happy with sigs can turn them off. It is not rocket science. Clearly the polling shows that more people prefer them ...

do what you like with sigs, I just worked out how to turn them off. Feel free to discount the no vote by one, I get to win even if no loses the vote!

I'm surprised there is so much support for the signatures (50% at the moment). Can someone explain the attraction of them? Just seems to clutter the forum to me.
I'm happy though, because I've discovered I can turn them off.

I voted "No" but after learning that I can turn them off in the user control panel it becomes a bit of a non-issue for me so I'm happy either way.

Mostly I would like to see the progress meters back under those with targets. So just for that and nothing more a "Yes" vote from me.

Other than that I do get a small giggle from the occasional wit. Amusing but I can easily do without.

49% Yes
39% No
12% Don't Mind

So Signatures are back on - it may take a while until they are visible in all threads due to caching. A strong tendency towards compact signatures and the limits are in place that won't get current signatures though will affect new signatures.

Thank you everyone for the discussion. Happy to bring this up again in the future.

I hadn't realised signatures were off, but had subconciously thought that things looked a bit more refreshing and less cluttered around here lately. It's good to not have all that meaningless egotistical crap that some people insist on putting on as 'signatures' - one line is enough already!
