"Resolution advisor" is a vom-worthy alternative to "Customer Service Officer" probably in Transurban's Melbourne HQ.

Without a doubt, and therefore has probably never seen the M2 or the pictures of a cyclist sprawled in the traffic lane after being sent off course by the inconvenient debris due to lack of sweeping.

As the breakdown lane is a designated cycleway (I'm assuming the painted bicycles on the lane make it so) do the owners of the motorway have a duty of care to cyclists which should mean a daily sweeping and anyone involved in an accident due to debris on the cycle lane could sue? Just curious about the legalities of these lanes.

Not being a lawyer, but having read a bit about nonfeasance cases, I'd say that there's no doubt that it is a designated cycling route, even if not its a cycling lane.
The defence that a roads authority - or in this case a company - would rely on is that their asset maintenance is as per standard practice common to other similar roads. However, if there is a chain of reports from road users complaining about hazards and they establish a pattern that (a) the asset owner knows about the problem and (b) their measures are not sufficient to actually address the problem, then there could be a case for compensation.

While its not entirely clear from that email when sweeping actually occurs - I ride the M2 westbound last night and saw no evidence of anything having been recently swept (at least in the cycle lane).

I think it has been as I can make out rough lines where it has been on the westbound lanes but they do a useless job - it seems to just spread the glass out further, and there's large debris like chunks of truck tyre that don't get picked up by the sweeper or by anyone after the sweeper has been past.
Eastbound it has definitely been done after the tunnel because it's clear to see where they leave a strip of up to 1.5m on the left of the shoulder where the sweeper doesn't touch.

It is nice to live in hope but sometimes disappointing. On the upside I'm working on an early mark TGIF commute today

Me too, just hoping this deployment tonight doesn't require my input. Have to at Bella Vista for a 6am start.

Received this email from NorthConnex today after 5 weeks and nothing originally followed up by a chase-up yesterday:
Dear Simon
Thank you for your email regarding access for bicycles on the M2 during construction of the NorthConnex project.
It is anticipated that the westbound bicycle lane will be closed from August 2015 with clearly signposted detours in place.
At this stage no changes to eastbound access for bicycles are proposed.
If you have any further questions or clarifications please contact us as per the details below or visit our website at http://www.northconnex.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for up to date information.

For me this is great news as I use the eastbound side of the whole M2 most mornings but on the way home exit at Pennant Hills Rd. Annoying for friends that live out west and use the full M2 both ways for their commute.........

You can bet the detour is Murray Farm Rd through to North Rocks, then down North Rocks Rd to Windsor rd. Only takes you about 7km out of your way!

Yep, why reinvent the wheel when it comes to pathetic detour design...... They may possibly though (crazy I know) designate the footpath down the Renown Rd big dipper as a shared path. That would be the most direct and closest route despite the big dip to get you back to the Windsor Rd/M2 interchange.

They should be paying for a new ramp from Barclay Rd down to the shoulder. That would be a bearable detour

I realise it's all pretty crap, but I've got to say I'm pleased to see that there is not change to eastbound.

For now anyway. I am still waiting to see what happens to the the western shared path up to Aiken Rd. May have to switch to the narrow footpath on the golf course side.

Given the scale of the works (just guessing but it can't be straightforward) I'll be amazed if they manage to keep both directions open to cyclists.
Can anyone post a strava link to a route that they think will be the detour? Am keen to check it out. Sounds like it might be a bit hilly.

Definitely gone. They've already boarded up the houses on that side of the road. The only survivor is the garden supplies place halfway up, and my guess is they will be gone by August. It'll all be levelled and the Control Centre for Northconnex is going in there. No way that path will be maintained. Golf course side it will have to be. Alternatives if going north of Aiken are Murray Farm Rd/Oakes Rd/Aiken Rd/Salina out to Oratava. Or the old fave Sutherland Rd/Hannah St/Cardinal Avenue.

Yep, as the western side will be a huge construction compound, the path is going. It's been marked up for services relocation for a couple of months, so once the demolition is done I suspect the access on that side will be blocked off from the M2 up to Eaton Rd.
The golf course side is terrible for cycling as there is barely enough room for one bike, so I may have to return to Sutherland Rd or the Kent Rd M2 Overpass. I hate the Murray Farm Rd route as the lights at PHR take about 8min to change.
On the plus side, Sutherland and Cardinal are good training for Fitz's Epic!

I'm not that familiar with that path so maybe this isn't possible, but could it be widened to 2-2.5m to function as a shared path?
If yes, a quick letter to your local MP pointing out the problem and that access still needs to be maintained for cyclists might do the trick?

They could widen it if they cut into the road lane. I'll try riding it tomorrow afternoon and get some video

I'm thinking of just taking the left lane up Pennant Hills Rd until I'm past that block, then back to the path up to Castle Hill Rd. the eastern path is pretty awful. One downside is that those cagers might hold me up

That's also an option. It's a fine line between being stuck between two cars and being stuck between two B-Doubles though. You are right though, claim the lane to Eaton Rd then the path
