Nil flats.... spoke to a cyclist who said he saw a silver early 2000's Astra hatch a couple of weeks back, around lunch time mid week. Female driver, male passenger dropping handfuls of tacks from the car. He approached them and they got out of there real quick. Rego obtained. Wont publish here yet as Im making enquiries.
Keep an eye out.

i can't say if he did or didn't, but sometimes people make the selfish decision not to 'get involved' - i.e. putting their own convenience ahead of the carnage wreaked by cretins like this bloke.flex5150 wrote:Allegedly he did?
Having said that I gave him my details as well and asked him to report back to me with the rego, Im yet to hear which makes me think it might be a load of crap but Ill be watching out for it any silevr Astras on the Boule just the same.

From memory the Boulie is 6.5km each way but with enough bods it shouldn't be too big a task. There'd be stretches of no tacks that'd speed things up a bit...
If we could get our hands on industrial magnetic sweepers that'd help lots too.
Whaddya'll reckon?
Too ambitious?? Am I dreamin'??

^^ this, same experience here.Velo_bandit wrote:Just wanted to offer some advice to all who ride the boulevard, if you stay off the shoulder completely, ride on the left of the lane about a foot from the line you will not get any tacks. Been doing this for months after picking up several tacks and having a tyre shredded by some metal shards and I have not had any issues since, any tacks that make it into the lane tend to get picked up by cars.
I don't know why this advice is not on that dumb little sign the police have put out to make it appear as if they are doing something, I'm thinking of perhaps installing my own sign as I still see people riding on the shoulder and getting flats.
Anyway, you don't have to avoid the boulevard, just avoid the shoulder, don't let them win!

the bit to the left of the white line, where bikes often ride and cars are parked.zill wrote:What is the shoulder?

What is the official meaning for that white line (that is meant to separate the cyclists and the cars) then ?jules21 wrote:e.
there is no bike lane btw, not officially.

the road rules impose requirements about crossing solid white lines. the line provides 'protection' against other vehicles crossing into your path, from over the line. this is exactly the same as a bike lane, except that a bike lane compels cyclists to use it (as far as practicable). so this is actually better for us (counter-intuitive, huh?)zill wrote: What is the official meaning for that white line (that is meant to separate the cyclists and the cars) then ?
on the right. don't remember saying on the left.zill wrote:So ride on the right of that line but why in an earlier post you mentioned left that of line?
i tend to swing back in when cars pass. but i don't think it's dangerous, it's just a lane, like any other that motorists have to move around you on.zill wrote:If riding on the right of that line, wouldn't it be dangerous as the cars use that space as well?

It's simply there as lane delineation ie. definitely not a bike lane.zill wrote:What is the official meaning for that white line (that is meant to separate the cyclists and the cars) then ?jules21 wrote:e.

he means in the left of the 'car' lane, not to the left of the white linezill wrote:Why left?Velo_bandit wrote:Just wanted to offer some advice to all who ride the boulevard, if you stay off the shoulder completely, ride on the left of the lane about a foot from the line you will not get any tacks.
