Never had more than 20psi in it. It just did this during the ride. It does have around 4500kms on it though.

Gave the ECR another good run on Saturday night. Sydney to Nowra through the night. I packed it all up just for fun.

Nice ride! Pretty good pace too.

I ticked over 2500kms this morning. Pretty much just commuting and the odd 100-120km ride.

Still loving it. I have just bought a 24 pack rack for the front.

Hopefully still doing the Hunt 1000 on it in November if my plans come together.

I see mine have gone too

Was checking my wheels last night and noticed my Velocity Dually rear rim is cracked on every drive side spoke. Only got 3100kms out of it.

Time to search for something a bit stronger.

That does not sound good at all. Problem with the rim or the build or combination of both?

I bought it as a complete wheel so not sure how it was built.

My previous velocity rims, P35, Blunt and Blunt SL all went the same way in less than 2000kms.

I really should have gone for the 36 spoke version. My cheap Alex rim with 36 spokes is fine after 14000kms.

Will have to source another rim before an upcoming trip in November.

Alex rims came stock on my Surly Long Haul Trucker way back when ... solid rims for sure.

How may spokes are your Velocity rims? What sort of load have you on them?

32 spokes on the Dually. I do weigh 105kgs and bike weight is around 22kg loaded, but it has been ridden fully loaded a few times.

Mostly used for commuting and long rides half loaded.

I would have thought 32 spokes could handle the load okay. Not a good look for Velocity

Seeing that my Thomson seat post of choice had a recommendation of max weight of 91kg made me consider carefully what sort of durability I would put into a build.

My personal choice is a minimum of 36 spokes, albeit the lightest ones available at the time.

I use 36 spokes for my IGH which has the same size spokes for both sides which I imagine suggests equal torsional lateral forces being shared and claimed by Rohloff being equal of a 40 spoke build of an "off set" hub build.

I've no agenda in pushing you towards an IGH hub but would in your shoes carefully consider a 40 spoke build, as being of a generous build myself, I'm aware of the benefits of adding a little extra strength in the spirit of durability.

There are posts online about issues of Velocity rims.

My perception of a common theme was high pressures in high volume tires and when I say high pressure, I mean over 45 psi and thats with tires of 2' to 2.3 so I'd expect to be significantly lower for a 3' tire.

My Krampus has a 36 spoke rear wheel and has 14000kms on it. It's hard to find a 36 spoke wheel that is wide enough to suit a 3in tyre. I don't think I ever put more than 20psi into my rear tyre. Even with a 2.4 tyre on it.

I would love to get a Rohloff but getting it past the wife would not work. Unless I went from 5 bikes back to 1.

You would be better off to keep your bikes and your money in your pocket.

Also, at your weight it's unlikely you would be able to gear low enough without exceeding Rohloff's weight restriction and voiding the warranty.

Well, since it’s your idea and you are so keen, go right ahead and have the first bash.

I picked up an Alex MD27 rim laced to a Novatec hub last Friday. Got about 60kms on it running a 2.4 tyre.

Just in time for my 10 day 1000km ride that's starting on the 26th. Hope to get a 100 plus km fully loaded ride in next Tuesday too see how it goes before I head off.

The new rim held up well riding 524kms over 5 days carrying way too much stuff.

Sorry have only just seen this. I haven't loaded the Krampus up for bikepacking so I can't really compare them. I mainly use the Krampus for singletrack riding and it's now setup as a singlespeed.
