Only Strava could answer that, but I can't see why not. There was a link on the Strava Heatmaps page saying that you could deep dive into the data and to click on some button to enquire about it.

Agree, the report on the surface appears to have been undertaken with enough effort to justify what they wanted the result to be.

November for westbound, January for eastbound.

Happy to help with routes but there's nothing particularly suitable and the detour they've come up with pathetic (kindest word I can think of).

Yep, if you don't mind the world's narrowest footpath the first link below is my usual homeward commute (eastern footpath M2 to Aiken, cross over then western footpath until Castle Hill Rd). Combine that with the second one, a morning commute of mine and you should be right. Depends how you like to mix it up with traffic as to wether you stick to Old Northern Rd or go backstreets but it's not bad. Pennant Hills Rd up hill in evening peak is just beyond my threshold, while Castle Hill Rd is flat and fine 99.9% of the time. Alternatively there's the "official" route which is in the document I linked on Friday. Or Renown Rd at North Rocks but it has a massive big dipper that means you're dicing with traffic that is gunning it from the bottom back up the other side. There are tonnes of variations possible but these are the routes I've settled in to most of the time.

Come November I think I'll be back to the CBD, Olympic Park, Parra River, Parra Park route. Adds about 15+ minutes [emoji20].

Sigh :( I think the tunnel will be a good idea in the long run, but still sucks they close the cycle lane.

I recently decided to ride to work from Castle Hill after seeing 6 cyclists pass me by on the M2 on my way home. Won't let this stop me though. Any suggestions from Castle Hill (near TAFE end on Old Northern)? Otherwise I can drive to my parents near Muirfield Golf Course and ride up North Rocks rd -> Haines Ave -> Murray Farm rd -> Little bit of footpath on PH rd then on to M2.

P.S Rode on M2 on the weekend and saw crap load of broken glass on the beecroft rd on ramp. Luckily no puncture for me. (Touch wood)

Are there some good sneaky routes through there? I've been trying avoid Sam Riley off Glenhaven while they do roadworks, so I took Gilbert Rd up to Showground Rd. Would be nice if I can cut through the reserve instead

There is a path across the creek in the park with the basketball court at the bottom of highs rd that goes to Castlewood. Then a couple of hills to get up to the centre of castle hill via crane rd. It is my normal non-M2 route to work. Pretty hilly with one steep pinch that is quite short. Not much traffic and a good way to go as far as castle hill.

If you are heading out for club rides, you can then go down Parsonage to get to the other side of Castle hill which pops you up on Windsor Rd near Victoria Ave. Safest from there is through Norwest down to Old Windsor. You can go straight down Windsor rd through Kellyville which is OK heading west but not great going up the hill in traffic heading East.

I will show you the way mate, I go to the shops and down to castle hill RSL through the back of that there is a gate. You can go down some really nice streets to the ovals and then out a path into the back of kellyvile and down wrights rd. All pretty safe.

Hey trek52,

Interested in this way into Kellyville without going up the showground dipper. I normally head south to parsonage to go around it, but can add time time when I am running late for a ride meet. If it is early and light traffic I do the dipper. If you have a Strava link you are willing to post or can PM me?

Have you got a link to the route. I can't see where you can access Wrights Rd Via Caterson Reserve. Google maps sat view covers the paths with trees.

HI Guys,

here is a starva link to the route I found through Fred Caterson. I think there is probably better as it was raining heavy and I couldn't find a way down to the path so had to carry my bike down some stairs. I think I should have explored a bit more near the indoor stadium, as I think it probably starts there.

https://www.strava.com/activities/347112164

I actually found this thread after hearing about the M2 closure coming up. On the way home to Kellyville I was thinking up the path on PHR, then CHR, then ONR up to Glenhaven Rd and down the hill, finally heading up Sam Riley. I ride on Sam Riley a fair bit and the construction isn't too bad, at the moment at least. When its finished it will be sweet.

If you don't like the construction, you can go up to Bernie Mullane and down the back streets, bike path across the creek to acres rd and then back streets down to the last roundabout on Sam Riley.

I rode that route on my way out this morning

I was wondering if there is a route through the back of WPH, maybe down Aitken, but i see Simon posted a coonara route. I didn't know whether you could get up into Castle Hill, maybe to Terminus street from there.

cheers

Hi Terry,

I ride through from Highs Rd to Castlewood Drive via a short shared path to get to my place on Crane Rd. Loads of hills of course but "some" options for when we're given the bum steer yet again. Once it's closed both ways I'll go back to this route both ways probably - currently in the mornings I go the longer way via Windsor Rd and onto the M2.

I was wondering if there is a route through the back of WPH, maybe down Aitken, but i see Simon posted a coonara route. I didn't know whether you could get up into Castle Hill, maybe to Terminus street from there.

Hi Terry,

Yep, Aiken is an option - I also do Aiken/Hill Rd/Coonara via shopping centre depending on my mood. Prefer CHR and Coonara these days - never had much motorist grief on CHR despite the traffic levels in the afternoon/evening.

There's a shared path between Highs and Castlewood to get from WPH to Castle Hill easily. I wish that was possible in the car sometimes! The middle of the map in the below link shows where the shared path is.

I did a ride this morning to try and work out the best way to get across from Castle Hill to Kellyville through Fred Caterson Reserve (though i think they still call it Castle Hill on the east side of Kings Rd.

Heading towards Castle Hill, I went all the way down Wrights Rd, went past the locked gate into the Sewerage treatment plant. Got to the plant and there is a little bush track (there is a pic on the strava ride). This path comes out at the BMX track. it requires getting up to the road by a washed out area, then dismounting through another gate. While it works, its probably not the best route. I just found it annoying.

On the way back I went and crossed where I did before which brings you out on one of the connecting streets to Kings Rd, but this time found the start of the path rather than having to walk down the stairs. You will see it took me a little bit of exploring to find it but if you head down the hill and turn right as soon as the unpaved car park starts, the entrance to the path is in the north west corner.
I also cut through the RSL car park on the way back and noted that the gate shuts at 700pm and opens at 5pm. to be remembered if you go through there, though there is no issue with taking the next street up towards Showground Rd if its closed.

That looks somewhat painful Terry, and not a route for a roadie on 23mm rubber...... If I was heading out that way (past Castle Hill to Kellyville/Rouse Hill/etc/etc) I'd probably either ride Showground Rd or Carrington Rd/Victoria Ave/Salisbury Rd depending on traffic at the time. There is no good alternative to the M2 no matter which way you look at it though.

I agree that the Wrights Rd option is too painful. The other path that comes out on Brooke Avenue isn't bad. Granted, there is about 25m of dodgy carpark, but it really depends on your aversion to the dipper on showground road, particularly in the afternoon peak. Even getting up to Windsor Rd via Salisbury isn the best due to it being a carpark most afternoons when i'd be riding through there. I could add a few k's on and go through Norwest and down old windsor Rd. How i wish there was a small bicycle lane from Norwest boulevard heading west.

oh, and I liked the CHR, then Coonara route. Some nice little hills heading up into Castle Hill. The other option is stay on CHR and up to ONR then Glenhaven Rd which i though of originally.

that path by Pennant Hills Golf club is hopeless. Could it be any skinnier!

Boys the other way is to go to cecil ave then parsonage rd to windsor rd, bit further but easier with the traffic.

I still reckon I will go m7/m2 off at windsor, through dipper and then back on M2 at penno
