Training with power authors/books...

Postby steve-waters » Mon Apr 29, 2019 4:42 pm

Afternoon folks been a while since I posted.

I am looking to move from HR based training into power - still deciding between power meter or smart trainer but that's not this threads purpose.

I am looking for a couple of books or author recommendations for power based training knowledge.

I am thinking from my looking around that:
  • The Power Meter Handbook: A User's Guide for Cyclists and Triathletes (Joe Friel)
  • Training and Racing with a Power Meter
    3rd Edition
Are probably as good a place as any to start...

Any thoughts on other information sources from others welcome...

Thanks in advance
Steve

Highlighted book is good. Then look at the Cyclists training bible - also by Joe Friel. Both books go together just about.

I have both books. Don't read them anymore - but they are handy to get the theory, then it is learning the practical stuff.

Thanks mate.

I have many books on HR training - I must admit I do enjoy the theory as much as the practical application.

Oh numbers I love numbers looking forward to getting into it.

Thanks again for the response.

Training and Racing with a Power Meter will give you many an hour of useful assistance with a transition to using power meter wisely. I know the author's personally and they really do know their stuff.

The 3rd edition is quite new, I don't have it yet.

Just wanted to say thanks...have got "Training and Racing with a power meter".

Great book super easy to digest whilst still giving enough tech details to understand.

Just waiting on my Power2max spider to arrive now so I can put it into practice.

+1 for that book, easy to understand and I learnt a lot about training from it.

I always struggle with other training books, particularly Friel's Cyclists Training Handbook

Recently found Dylan Johnson's channel on You Tube, (as long as you are willing to take training advice from a youthful MTBer) I learnt more, including concepts I struggled with (eg periodization) and about to go reread my "Training and Racing with a power meter" with a new insight. He also recommended that book in a video with the comment "everything I learnt about training with a power meter came from this book"
