As part of the spreading of the 'Classic' series by Bicycling Australia, there is a Clare Classic with several route options
• 160km Maxi Classic
• 110km Challenge Classic
• 50km Social Classic
To be held on the 5th April 2020, they all use portions of the same route, but whatever you choose, should be a great alternative or addition to the TdU stage, and maybe avoid the heat (and crappy finish location).
It ain't cheap at $180 , and a jersey is an added cost, but should be a great day out.
And to top it off, they have just announced a possible "Gravel" fondo the day before (4th April) as well. No route yet, but an EoI page to register. Seems from some traffic on farceberk, that Pat Jonker is involved and a scenic 70km route is what is planned.
Personally, I have a mate who just started a job at Clare Council, so have a ready place to stay, and would love to do both.
I've registered to do the Maxi Classic, but if the Gravel version goes ahead, I'll be in that too. Just gotta take two bikes !!
2020 Clare Classic (and potential Gravel option !!!)

Sounds good to me. I'd probably do the 160km road ride but a potential clash with the g/fs birthday might be a problem
