Hello,

Today I went up a slope on my MTB and the front wheel mis-aligned with the handlebars.

I've had this happen on other bikes before but when I crashed; not when I rode up a slope.
My question is; is there any way to tighten it so it doesn't mis-align so easily?
If so, where on the bike can I tighten it?

Would have thought the pinch bolts clamping the stem to the steerer tube just need to be done up tighter.

If your steerer tube is carbon fibre, then to the recommended torque setting.

A typical torque for the 4 bolts mentioned above (the ones at the top of the tube that comes from your front forks through the frame head tube and attaches the (short) stem fitting to the top of that tube) would probably be around 7Nm (assuming not carbon), which is not stupidly tight. Have you tried them for tightness with a hex/allen key (probably 5mm or 6mm) ?

Strangely, my bike came out of the box with loose nuts causing this problem.

Not unusual for it to be loose out of the box. The bars are usually turned to hebside in the box, or off completely.
