Vaccination on a bike
Postby Audioio » Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:57 pm
I'm getting vaccinated next week at the Exhibition Building in Carlton. Can anyone tell me please if there's a place close to the building to securely lock my steed? Thanks in advance.

Bike racks at several places on the concourse between the Museum and Exhibition building.

You can see them on this 360 degree Google Maps image: https://www.google.com.au/maps/(AT)-37.804 ... 912!8i3456
I was there this week to get a vaccine shot.

We've been told it's not a race, I think it might actually be..

Have biked home after giving blood and just felt a little light headed once home, but have also had a couple of days of very bad brain fog and fevers after typhoid and yellow fever shots - both of of which they make you sit in the waiting room for at least 30 minutes after a shot to check on any reactions. Yet to find an antimalarial that does not make me ill.
Not sure which cv19 shot you had but as a vac they are still quite new, and while we are just bags of meat, bone and fluid, we are all just that little bit different, so....

Yeah I think they say no strenuous exercise for however long afterwards. I remember I used to take it very easy riding home after blood donations.
I did ride to/from my Pfizer shot without any noticeable affects, but I know everyone's different and what did you have for breakfast, etc, YMMV...

No side effects whatsoever other than a very very mildly sore arm lying on it in bed that night.
Second shot the day after tomorrow.

Didn't notice anything tbh.
May not have been the most sensible choice

Bit of a sore arm after the second dose but that was it.

Good job warty, been so cold I doubt I would jump at such a distance - think I need the Sputnik variety to get me biking with any speed- really enjoying my longish and very slow rides this year.
Guess that was my point, not wanting to be seen as having any anti vax sentiment, be easy on yourself and best not ride alone - if you go out with others make sure you all know who has had what and when in case things go a bit off track.

3 months later, he's still not back in the water & has another few months before he's cleared.

Doctors got priority vaccination I think so he probably got Astrazeneca. The booster is an MRNA vaccine Pfizer or Moderna - these can cause cardio issues.foo on patrol wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 10:25 pmInteresting, my Dr is a cyclist and was back on the bike the next day hooking in after his 2nd shot.Maybe the booster shots are different?

No, he got Pfizer and wouldn't have had the booster yet.

Pfizer x3 here.
Absolutely no side effects with the first.
2 and 3 a mildly sore arm at the injection site for a couple of days.
Cardio side affects are rare.

I know some other very strong riders who got the booster shot with Pfizer IIRC (overseas, not here) and they were out of action for a couple of days and then another 3 or 5 days to get back to normal speed/power. They had pretty much the same symptoms I had after my second Pfizer jab.foo on patrol wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 10:25 pmInteresting, my Dr is a cyclist and was back on the bike the next day hooking in after his 2nd shot.Maybe the booster shots are different?

I wasn't great between hours 24 and 48 for second pfizer jab, but picked up again after that. Booster will be Moderna. One FB friend has just gone the same route, and reports he and partner have been knocked flat for a couple of days, but are coming good.g-boaf wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 1:16 pmI know some other very strong riders who got the booster shot with Pfizer IIRC (overseas, not here) and they were out of action for a couple of days and then another 3 or 5 days to get back to normal speed/power.
