Road Tyres for my Gravel Bike

Postby Rawshack » Fri Sep 23, 2022 3:09 pm

Hi all

Long time listener, first time caller

I've been riding my Silex 400 with 40mm Pirelli gravel tyres and it's been great, but recently I've been veering onto roads a little more.

I have a spare set of rims so wanted to stick some road tyres on there

I've been thinking Continental GP 5000 tubeless but open to suggestions

Ta

The second hand Norco Search that I use as a commuter came to me with Maxxis Refuse which are bullet proof but heavy so I wanted something just as durable but with better rolling resistance and after some research settled on Pirelli Cinturato Velo several weeks ago and I'm really happy with them. They score highly in all categories at https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/

GP5000STR are a great tyre apparently, but prohibitively expensive. :(
Pirelli P-zero race tlr can sometimes be found a bit cheaper.
Seem to roll and grip well and puncture resistant.
I am happy with mine.

I use the non-TR ones on mine. Love the wet weather grip, and have had few puncture issues, the only ones being some self-inflicted pinch flats resulting from abysmally timed bunny hops over driveway lips.

I would probably do that in preference to paying the price asked for the tubeless version.
Prefer tubeless now so use a more reasonably priced tubeless tyre.

These look just what I am after - I love my Silex and given my age, ability and general lack of athleticism, there's not room for a dedicated road bike. The Pirellis look to be a great fit if I can find them in either 28 or 32mm

99Bikes are showing the 28mm in stock. I have 35mm on my commuter.
