Trike shop near Sydney or Canberra

I'm interested in getting a recumbent trike (ICE, Greenspeed, Azub or similar).

So I'm looking for a shop where I can try some. I know about RSC Cycling in Cootamundra. The guy is very, very nice, but the shop is a bit fare away from Canberra (particularly with bike+public transport). Is there currently any shop in Sydney or closer to Canberra?

Many thanks for any pointers!

The only other shops I'm aware of are in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

There's a secondhand ICE for sale in Newcastle. Looks to be well priced.

There's a group ride in Sydney on 22 June. Some of the riders might let you try their trikes.

Thanks @OldBloke. I feared that.

Strange that Sydney is such a "trike-shop desert"...

Australia is a recumbent desert. Trikes/bikes are expensive and unknown so needs a real enthusiast to spend the money on a shop. Sydney rents mean that realistically you have to have it as a sideline to your main business.

Sideline would be fine with me as long as I can try, say an Azub TriCON 20... :)

In the days of low rent and decent exchange rate it was probably worth importing on spec. I doubt anyone has the funds to do so now.

When I bought my Giro 20 I got to try several bikes at Flying Furniture. When I bought the GT20 trike I bought one of the first ones made sight unseen but I figured it was a Greenspeed and so would be OK.

When I bought the Encore I had seen a couple of pics. I got it cos they made it for my size (well almost. The seat to pedal is OK, the hand to bar is not quite right)

When I bought the Speedmachine I basically went "name brand and the only underseat steering bike in the country and it is New Old Stock so discounted. Sold". it was in Qld so no chance of a ride.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Unfortunately there aren't any recumbent trike shops super close to Canberra. The group ride in Sydney on the 22nd could be a good opportunity to try some different trikes though. I'd recommend attending that event and chatting with the other riders. Many enthusiasts love sharing their passion and may be willing to let you take their Azub or other trike for a short test ride. It's definitely not ideal to purchase without trying first, but attending events is usually the best way find options in Australia.

Which is a horrible URL for the Trisled Come and Try including Sydney on Thu 12th Sep and Canberra Fri 13th.

You won't get an Azub there but their trikes might suit.

BTW you are unlikely to get a go on an Azub anywhere. The shops I talked to (I wanted a 2 wheeler) didn't want to deal with Eastern Europe.

Not only that, when a company imports and re-sells something, it is classed as the maufacturer under Aust Consumer Law and must assume all responsibility for product liability, warranty, service and spare parts supply for a significant period of time. A business has to think carefully about that for the sake of one or two sales.

Oh good. I can make the Sydney one if it is on a Wednesday. Not that I need another bike.
