Should we turn signatures back on? VOTE

Postby AUbicycles » Wed Apr 03, 2013 8:38 pm

They have been off for a while after the veloviewer service had problems that were not able to be fixed fast (and thus affecting every single veloviewer graphic built into the signatures).

It is been refreshing not to have signatures. I personally don't mind a small compact text signature however have accommodated the compact bikejournal signatures. It started getting out of hand with massive signatures that were bigger than some posts... and highly distracting and uninteresting (i.e. seeing a KOM performance the 10th time doesn't add value).

BUT.. these are my opinions and while I have tried to create a fair balance - this is a community forum and I listen to the community, so would love your voice and your vote - should we leave the signatures off... or turn them back on?

I'd say yes but rarely see them as I mostly use Tapatalk.

I was under the impression they could be turned off in a user's display preferences but I guess that's only useful for members.

Another vote for turn them on and keep them small. One line of text and one line of progress bar.

Nah, what use are they anyway ?
Bragging ?
For sale links ?

I disable them for tapatalk so don't see them anyway so really couldn't care less.

Yep, turn them on, keep 'em small.
People that don't like them can easily switch them off.
My first intro to Bikesnob was a quote used in a sig!

It's always been the case to keep them small and slowly they get out out of hand. Turning them on sets you up for another round of disciplinary posts.
Just an observation.

Oh no, I am agreeing with RonK, I will have to rethink my position :D

For those that prefer no signature, it is easy enough to turn them off. Alternatively you may be able to change it so that the default setting is off for new users & guests, but a registered user can turn them on in the user control panel.

Voted yes and interestingly the yes vote is well out in front ... says something about the silent majority :)

It is looking like a majority ruling.

A challenge is that though I can create some limits, for existing signatures these can't automatically be changed

Give people some grace to change it , if they dont then the mods should be given the OK to remove non complying signatures.

Can't you just default everyone's settings to signatures off and then if we want them we can turn them on?... If they can be turned off then I really don't see the issue... If you don't want to see them turn them off!.
