What is the steepest rd in Sydney?

Anyone know the answer to this question?

The steepest one I could find is Ryedale rd behind the Ryde hospital. The final 50m is insanely steep. My guess wouuld be at least 20%. Anyone know the gradient of this slope?

Don't know the steepest - but the road (Parrawi St??) to Balmoral Beach off Military Rd is pretty damn steep....not that I've ever ridden up or down it.

Awaba St at Balmoral Beach is well known for its steepness too.
Bianchi, Ridley, Tern, Montague and All things Apple :)

Add Wallace st, Marrickville South

I had to chuck a u'ie when I realised that I needed a lower gear and would of just fallen over if I tried to change. With aid of the triple I made it up on the second attempt.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

I am sure none of these are "the steepest in Sydney" though. Parts of the Kentwell/Allambie Road hill are steeper although the average grade is smaller.

i rode up a road in the blue mountains national park yesterday (at glenbrook), GPS had parts of it at 19%, most was 14%.
Its steep but i am sure there is plenty worse out there

The road up to Bowen Mountain in the Hawkesbury is very steep. I think it is about 20% but will have to plot on map my ride.

This man speaks the truth. I road down across the spit and back on tuesday and parriwi road wasnt too bad going back home. Battle blvd on the other hand nearly killed me and i felt like throwing up as I lay on somebodys lawn in edgecliffe esplanade!

I don't know Rydale road very well. How does it compare with Shaftsbury road on the other side of the train line from Rydale road?

Rydale is steeper I think, but the hill is quite short. I'll go and measure the gradient and take pics on the weekend.

Yeah, of course I meant Awaba Street. The road they put the Balmoral Burn up. Not Parriwi. Excuse my d*ckheadedness.

Battle Blvd aint nothing on Awaba.

Plateau Road to Bilgola and Allambie Road are both long drawn out climbs, and in terms of average % over length would be right up there.

Coming either way out of Akuna Bay is a good climb, but not the steepest.

I have a cousin on Bowen mountain...riden there alot and even thou it is steep there are no 20% pitches there...maybee on the mtb trail after the observatory :lol:

Cottage Point off Akuna bay has some very steep sections,especially the last 150 meters by the yaught club...that is a ball buster in 39/27.

If the road is paved, then there's bound to be a limit in its grade. :wink:

Pretty well Id say. Its a lot lighter than any of my previous bikes but Im still 6'3"+ and a slim 85kg. Never got out of the saddle.

I'm voting my little section of Windsor Rd in Kellyville but it's the only 1 I do :D

It's my big 1km of hill!
Starfire: I am happy to see her. But Blackfire rules the videogames and she is able to share very depressing poems AND she knows the cool moves and she always knows when people are NOT talking about shovels.

Hmmm... same altitude gain as Parriwi over about 1/2 - 1/3 of the distance... so that would make a grade of somewhere from 12% to 20%... Steep enough. Have peered down it when crossing it.
