EBay Cycling Jerseys

Postby peter » Fri Nov 15, 2019 2:37 am

Anyone tried EBay jerseys? $50 for top and bottom with team graphics seems very cheap comparing to shops.

Are they cheap because of inferior materials? Or cheap due to unlicensed?

A combination of both. Some have spelling mistakes.

Generally, they are OK, but sizing can be hard to get right.

I have had some in the past, but find spending a bit more is better and getting from local reputable brands like Cycology, Body Torque etc better in the long run.

Compare them to the fake 'Lolex' watches you get in the markets in Asia. From a distance, they look good, but after a while and a bit closer inspection, you can see the difference.

For how much you pay the ones i have had are pretty good, yes sure they may not be the quality of branded ones, and they may not be the most comfortable or longest lasting, but for rides upto maybe 50-60km or commuting they perfect.

For longer rides, i find quality bibs are much nicer to wear.

Biggest issue is the hit and miss sizing, if in doubt go a size bigger then you think.

If you're going to be buying those jerseys from Ebay, then you might as well check out AliExpress. Same items for half the price.
I bought one a few years back. Was looking for a relatively cheap jersey for 40-50km commuting purpose.
Quality is decent. Don't expect too much.
Like most cheap jerseys, the first to fail will be the zipper. My zipper is permanently stuck in the same position!

Never tried the bibs. Heard from friends who have them that they are only good when new and deteriorate much faster than your typical cycling brand. Surprise, surprise.

Would I buy them again?
For commuting yes, for longer distance riding .. no.

I bought a long jersey and bib long set a few years ago for about $50, the zippers are not great quality, and I had to repair some stitching after a year or so but otherwise it's pretty damn good for the price. Being in Qld I don't need winter weight gear too often so it should last me a long time yet.

Have a look in https://onlinecyclinggear.com.au/collec ... cling-kits with free p&h from Qld.
short sleeve jerseys or long sleeve.

There's the sizing chart in the menu to find which size might fit or free exchange.
ID please? What ID? My seat tube ID is 27.2mm or 31.6mm depending on what bikes I ride today.thanks...

Thanks guys, was about to give it a go but the sizing chart shows strange numbers. Decided not to waste time/money on those.

yeah, most of the time the product became cheap because of low quality materials. Sometimes they are not paying unnecessary expenses so they can sell it cheap.

I bought the "Retro" Cycling Jerseys and shorts via South Australian Ebay supplier to match my 1980 Peugeot road bike. I have previously purchased a Team cap, jersey and socks for the 1980's Peugeot/Michelin/Shell and recently purchased the mid 1980's winter Team Jersey and matching bib shorts Peugeot/Michelin/BP. It took some time for this recent order with COVID-19 to arrive and arrived direct from China. All orders were XL to ensure they fit. Recent purchase was $50-55 each with shipping! The winter jersey is a little warm and bib shorts have a very colorful gell padding but both work well. Just saw the non-Team Bib shorts, exactly same colourful pad graphics for $25!

Tried a few ebay. OCG is a bit better and similar priced. They at least are better with sizing.

I am 184cm tall and 73kg.
Have OCG bibs and jersey.
Haven't worn jersey much yet as it is too cold here in winter.
The bibs have an ok chamois.
The leg grippers in a M are ok as is total length with bibs, maybe a touch long.
It is too big around the crotch and butt however.
Haven't struck that with other bibs.
Not unusable but could be better.
I will buy the same again in a S and see how they go.

Bibs are another ball game imo. I have one type of bib i prefer and that's it. Won't even indulge trying other bibs anymore.

Agree. The sizing is so variable from brand to brand.
My best fitting bibs are Castelli in an XL :?

The eBay jerseys are hit or miss sizing wise, even if you use the measurements in their size guides. But to be honest the randomness of sizing between brands is all over the place even with expensive "name" brands. The Chinese based eBay jerseys are always super small. OCG are closer to Aussie sizing but still slightly small.

For example, I'm 5'11" and 90kg and wear an XL in Scody or Pearl Azumi, XXL in OCG, and XXXL in the Chinese eBay jerseys.

I've found the quality of the generic eBay jerseys to be generally really good, in fact they're not as thin and light as the OCG jerseys, although the zippers are pretty flimsy.
