I just saw that. Noted that all other projects will probably be put on hold now - even ones already promised.

It must be so nice being a motorist.. knowing that you can expect that any road damage will be repaired quickly and without complaint from a bottomless bucket of money.

Is there a way to advocate that, if and when they do finally get around to fixing this, they treat it as a transport infrastructure project constructed by actual engineers instead of the lazy garden path that was built in the first place.

All it needs is a few hours rain and, at many points along the way, standing water can remain across the path for days on end. There is no drainage or channeling or even consideration to (water) fall that I can see on the path. While nobody could have predicted the flood damage would have been this bad, they would have known it's build in a flood zone and there is virtually nothing built along the way to prevent the path foundations from being washed away. It's a shockingly poorly constructed path, not fit for purpose (never has been) and the people responsible should be held to account.

That's pretty bad for sure - however it's not the real problem. People have been just riding and walking around the bit missing on the grass. There is now a very clear desire line. It's painful but we have a work around.

What isn't shown is further to the west maybe a couple of k.. one of the bridges is still there but it is now maybe 15 metres to the river bank so the link is severed. Plus - there is no really good bypass. You can get around it by heading north and then turning back SE again to meet Kedron Brook by riding through some industrial streets behind a major shopping centre. Unfortunately they are uber busy and it's a rat run too into the mix so not for the feint hearted.

Also there is no clear signposting so unless you know where you're going it's difficult. Given that it's a major school run this is a real issue. It's not 8-80.

The other bypass to the South is hilly and also only obvious if you know where you're going.

It looks like they are softening us up for a looooong wait.

Saw on the news last night that the Toombul shopping centre in it's entirety is being demolished. Makes the odd bike path or two (regardless of the volume of usage) drop down the importance order pretty quickly.

Well.. Toombul is commercial. The building owners and those that work there it will be a loss.. but they will rebuild it. It wasn't actually destroyed by the flood waters.. it was rainwater on the centre itself. The drainage couldn't cope and it literally filled the inside of the shop. I was told there was 1.5m of water on the top floor...

But to Kedron Brook.. look the road network is pretty much all operational. Yes there are probably repairs still to do but you can drive anywhere you like. What BCC are saying- not saying is road repairs and other damage have cost a bit so this is a really good opportunity to throw our hands up and use this plausible excuse to stop all walking/cycling projects. BCC doesn't like doing them because they typically annoy NIMBYS and everyone loves a new road. They know they have to do bikeway/walking stuff but they really hate doing it and now they've got a plausible reason not to. This is the list of cancellations.

- Two west end bridges "paused"
- monohull ferry restorations scaled
- Additional village precinct "paused" (that includes a unpopular bidirectional cycling clearway)
- Mowbray park vision paused
- Downey park cancelled (this was HUGELY unpopular with residents)
- North Brisbane cycleway (desperately needed but unpopular with LNP NINMYS) CANCELLED.

Can you see any road projects affected by that? No, because they must go ahead as promised.
