Velodrome riders of the 1950"s
by mictm123 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 5:04 pm
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum, my Dad was a velodrome rider in Melbourne in the 1950's I'm not sure where exactly but he was born in either Brunswick or Coburg so I'm guessing he rode somewhere around these areas. I am wondering if anyone might have known him or remember him at all his name was Robert Lindsay Nettleton (he may have been called 'Bob') I am now in my late 50's and he died when I was in my early 20's so I didn't get much chance to ask him about his riding so if anyone remembers him I would love to hear from them. Thank you, Michele

Hi Michele, and welcome.
Did a quick search of Trove.
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper
Are you looking for Lin Nettleton who rode for Brunswick and Coburg. (or is this a relative?)
Rode Amateur and Professional.
Got quite a few results from "The Argus" on Board Track Cycling (mostly at Essendon)
Cheers

Hi Michele. I have just found this site. It seems that I am a long lost cousin that you have never met. My dad was Kevin and he trained Uncle Lindsey in his riding career. They didn't talk for many years. I do have some stories about your dad if you want to contact me. I live in Castlemaine. He was a very talented rider.
