Giant Trance old vs new

Postby postaddict » Fri Feb 04, 2022 1:32 pm

Hi Everyone, I have my eye on two bikes. 2021 Trance 29 2 or 2018 Trance Advanced 1 27.5.

Both are in excellent condition.

I'm trying to decide on quality components, but older bike vs mid-spec 29er and almost brand new.

Any thoughts from anyone who has been in this situation?

Not really comparing apples with apples.

The 2021 is an alloy bike with 130mm at the front and SLX 12sp, the 2018 is a composite frame with SRAM 12sp and garbage brakes (the 29 2 isn't much better) but more travel & slightly better damping.

It really depends where and how the bike will be ridden.

Is there a big price differential ? There was when they were each new.

Personally I'd lean toward the '21, just for newness. (Plus the 2018 is pig-ugly)...
Campagnolo for show, SunTour for go

Depends on your riding. The 27.5 is a bit slacker and longer suspension travel, so is bordering on an all-mountain bike, whereas the 29 is more trail-oriented, so climbs better, and is better suited to mixed terrain.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
